Hi there - Just got my husband home from hospital - he is two days post-op and feels like crap. He underestimated the pain and the pain meds not doing much. I am having a hard time getting him to drink anything, much less getting any Protein in him. He is depressed and I fear he is having major regret. He won't even join this site for support. I think he is getting frustrated with me too.

For all of you out there - how can I support him? He hates everything I try to give him to drink and he just looks at me like I don't understand. Any helpful tips on palatable Protein sources, pain management, emotional support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry he feels bad, but he has to drink. Forget the Protein for now, dehydration is what you want to prevent. Can he suck on ice chips? SF popsicles? Some people don't tolerate cold things well. If that is the case, try hot tea, broth, gatorade.

Foxbins is right fluids are the most important thing right now! Protein can wait for a little while. Warm or cold or room temp you have to find what works for him. Plus he needs to sip sip sip and walk walk walk to get the gas moving and alleviate the pain.

I dont think I got much Protein in for the first 4 days. I just concentrated on fluids. Maybe put an array of different things like cup of tea, cup of gatorade, broth, Water and juice see what he tends towards taking.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
