I'M NOT BANDED YET AND I’VE GOT A QUESTION ON ACID REFLUX, HEARTBURN. I’VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT FOR YEARS NOW, ON AND OFF AND FROM TIME TO TIME TAKE ANTACIDS. IS THERE ANY MORE CHANCE OF EXTRA PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THAT? SLIPPAGE, EROING, ETC?

THANKS MUCH  <O:p</O:p

I also am not banded yet and was having bad problems with acid reflux.. I was eating TUMS like candy everyday in additon to doctor medication. Part of my (and I think everybodys) pre-banding process is to have a scan on your gallbladder. My test came back with enlarged gallbladder and 4 weeks later I had an attack that brought tears to my eyes. I went into the hospital, had the gallbladder removed, (enlarged 4 times normal), and now I have a rare case of indigestion. For me the removal of my gallbladder helped me alot.

Queen...some folks say that getting banded will either cure reflux or cause it...you won't know till you get there. I think the biggest danger is damage to the esophogus from the reflux...so you really want to do all you can to avoid it.

Try an LBT search for Reflux and Heartburn and see what pops up. If it's reflux, you'll get pages and pages of threads! Plenty of folks take Prilosec or some other acid reducer, but being too tight tends to be the biggest factor in reflux problems.

Did any of that help? LOL Good luck!

Thanks Kathi, Yes, It Did Help

I Was Thinking It May Cause Some Problem With The Band And Antacids Weren't Good For Lap Bands. I Think That Was About My Last Worry :)

Like Kathy, I agree. I didn't have acid reflux before the band and then I had a small bout of it afterwards. I used Pepcid AC one night and Zantac the next and it went away really quickly. The only thing I could think of was I had acid in my stomach because I was on liquids and it went up to my pouch (new stomach). It felt like heartburn and a golfball feeling but DID go away. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. Best thing I ever did. Good luck.

I've had reflux for years. Since being banded I've only had it two or three times (since May 31, 2006). I was a lucky one I guess. I have no idea if there is a relation to acid reflux or erosion.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
