My band failed me 8 years after having it now opting for sleeve

Recommended Posts

G'Day all

Yes as my topic title says I am a bandster had my Band put in in Australia in May 1999, it had worked really well for many years I went from 567 pounds in 1999 to 202 in November 2003 then got married and move from Australia to the USA I kept the weight off for about 2 more years well, but due to work and stress I slowly gained some back not much at all and I wasn't worried as I could loose it, then lost my job went to a new firm all was well there untill early 2009 when the economy caused that issue again No job, found out that sometime in the last few years I had developed a Hiatus hernia which had damaged the placement of my band and I was gaining weight hand over fist, and no adjustments would stop it, so in early 2010 I finally had insurance again and decided to get looked at for multiple issues one being a knee injury that was getting treated when I developed a major pain in my abdomen on the right side ended up in the ER to find out I had several hernia's and a major cluster of stones in my Gall Bladder they removed the gall bladder in emergency surgery that day, 4 weeks passed and small hernia repairs done then 5 weeks more had the lapband /hiatus hernia repaired and they put a new band in well 7 adjustments later and no sign of restriction yet, they did tests band looks fine but found out pouch has to be 2/3 rds full before food passes through band so after many Dr's visits found a Dr who I like and want to convert me from Band to sleeve and get this weight back off and find that guy who I was in 2003 again.

I'm missing Jobs account my size I am sure.

Had my band to sleeve revision last month with Dr Aceves. So far so good. Who would have thought I could put 1/4 cup of chili in a bowl, sit down and eat a teaspoon and actually feel full. So far this is what I thought the band was going to do.

Good Luck

The band was hell for me. I am so glad I have my sleeve. It's a much more normal of life. No horrible food stuck feeling. The recovery is much for involved but it's worth it.

I looked into the band and decided on the sleeve.

I feel the band was good at one time, the sleeve is now the

best of all. My opinion.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
