What to take to the hospital?

Recommended Posts

So I'm a week away from surgery and I am getting everything together for the hospital. What should I take? What was that one item that you forgot or kicked yourself in the ass for forgetting? I'm in a private room, and most likely be in the hospital for 2 days. Thanks for any suggestions. ONE WEEK WOOOOT!

Well, I packed a suitcase full of things (books, a hot pad, knitting, etc). I ended up using almost none of it. The one item I'm really glad I had with me was my robe, so my tush wasn't hanging out every time I wanted to take a walk. I would agree that chapstick and a hairbrush are good ideas too.

chapstick,

Water to rince you mouth out but not swallow,

your own pillow (im very partial to mine)

some people bring an I pod or a book but I was sleeping 90% of the time from the morphine

slippers are a good idea cuz the no slip sox they give you are just not so comfy

a robe or just a t-shirt and baskeball shorts to do your rounds in

tooth brush and paste it felt so good to brush my teeth

Well good luck with everything and let us nkow how it all goes

Robe and chapstick are good!!!

I also brought my laptop (they had free wifi) and cell phone....and chargers for all those things.

Robe was most important, I felt more confortable walking the halls....less exposed

I took a whole bag full as well, but didn't use anything. My stay was 3 days and they had a little travel kit for me with Shampoo and conditioner and deoderant and chapstick and toothbrush and stuff, but I didn't even shower while I was there. Yuck, I know, but I was so out of it. I did take my robe, never wore it, my kindle, which was great for my husband. So I would recommend the basics unless your stay will be much longer than mine was. Better to have to much stuff than not enough. Best of luck!!!!

I am taking my own soft fleece blanket that I like b/c hospital blankets are not the soft! I already have my bag somewhat packed b/c I am going for surgery on Tuesday and I picked up some of things suggested in a previous post which was gasx strips and sugar free cough drops. Also, I am big on washing my face to feel clean so i am taking face wash. I am not taking anything to read or watch...not thinking I will be watching anything other than the tv.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
