Why does yogurt make me hungry?

Recommended Posts

I usually have 1 yogurt a day as a my snack. The goal is to keep me from starving in between meals. I don't know what it is, but whenever I eat yogurt, I am STARVING about an hour after I eat it. I wasn't this hungry before I had it. The sad thing is, I can't eat for another hour. This is the only time that I can't wait to eat, is after I have yogurt. I don't get hungry like this any other time of the day. And it doesn't matter when I eat it. I guess it just passes right through me or something.

Maybe there's too much sugar in it and it causes a spike and subsequent drop in your blood sugar? I sometimes snack on yogurt, too, and it seems to fill me up just fine. Maybe look for a different brand with less sugar? The brand I use (Safeway Organics) has 14-15 g sugar per yogurt, while some other brands, like Yoplait, have 25+.

What kind of yogurt?

If it's regular or even light yogurt, like the Yoplait type, I mostly consider that a slider food. It's pert near liquid and it has lots of carbs and sugars in it.

Try switching to Greek Yogurt. I have tried the Chobani and the fruit on the bottom, its filling and lasts much longer. It's pretty tasty too.

Good luck!!

You could also give Greek yogurt a try. It has double the Protein compared to standard yogurt, is a lot thicker so less likely to be a slider food, and if you add agave to sweeten it, it'll cause less of a blood sugar spike.

Huh. I've been wondering what the difference was between greek and regular yogurt. Thanks!

I just found out that Yoplait Light (which was my fave) has high fructose corn Syrup in it. Yes. True. I switched to greek yogurt. Fage 2%. I add sugar free strawberry preserves instead of buying the ones with fruit in them. It definitely keeps you fuller than Yoplait and double the Protein.

Greek Yogurt has been my mainstay.

So far I find that Brown Cow is the the creameast, followed by Chorbani, then Okios. If you really want to blow carbs out the Water then get the plain and mix some Torani SF Syrup with it (found in the coffee isle) or some Crystal light with it.

If you really want to pump up the Protein, add a scoop of unflavored Protein to it.

It's probably the carb content in it. . .i understand that carbs make you more hungry then Proteins do, but we need the yogurt for our milk. . . and the greek one for the Protein. . . add some Protein powder into the yogurt. . . i find it calms the hunger pains a bit because of the Protein. . .

Thanks. I'll give the Greek yogurt a try, and try to add something else in it. I don't like fruit in my yogurt, that's why I usually get the kind that tastes like deserts. Not a big fan of any kind of fruit. Maybe I'll put some Crystal Light or some Unjury strawberry in it and see what it tastes like.

Hi guys ~ and gals i guess ~

i zig zag calories from time to time to keep my diet fresh and to try something different from time to time... lately i have been eating on a more regular schedule and find that eating makes me hungry? why is that!?!?!

for example, i usually don't eat Breakfast until i have been awake 2-3 hours. my tummy usually can't take it. BUT over the holidays, i found i was eating later at night, closer to bedtime. these days i would wake up starved! i would eat Breakfast within an hour, them be hungry again an hour after that. i spent two days just eating every 2 hours... trying to cycle out of it naturally... and yesterday seemed normal.

today, i was hungry an hour after breakfast. i just ate lunch and am starved a half hour later!

this is odd for me!

i have been changing my diet for two years and lifting weights for 2 years as well - so there is not notable change in the last month.

even over the holiday i held steady - except that maybe eating later in the day.

any ideas?

is my metabolism changing? i am 32, femme, healthy, with maybe 20-15 pounds of flab left to lose.

thanks

You can also try Carb Master yogurt from Kroger..It has around 2 to 3 carbs 12 grams of Protein and very little sugar. Dannon has a lot of sugar and probably lots of carbs... good luck shanny. I don't know if you can eat it yet but a piece of string cheese is loaded with Protein and if you get the right ones it is so much better than yogurt and stays with you twice as long. Yogurt does move fast through your sleeve it has a very slider effect.

We don't have Kroger in Baltimore. I'm going to look up what other chains they have to see where I can find that. Thanks for the tip!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
