Have first meeting with surgeon yesterday

Recommended Posts

It went really well, and he said I am a good candidate for the sleeve. He also said it was great that I was so well informed (thanks to this site!).

Now, I have to get the psych, nut, and exercise eval (which should all be scheduled on the same day), then insurance pre approval, then preop diet.

The surgeon said I should be able to get a surgery date within two months.

Yay for me!

:D

Great job!! I know the waiting is the hardest part. I'm one of those whose insurance required a 3 month supervised diet w/the surgeon's nutritionist and I'm on month 1-2. My next appt is on St Patty's Day, then the final one in early/mid April. After that, just wait for approval and surgery date!! Probably late April or early May. Ugh.... the wait is simply miserable but so well worth it! Good luck to you!!

Congratulations! We are on the same path. I had my first appointment with a surgeon this past week and next week I see my PCP for pre-op testing, and have the nut, exercise & psych consults too. Just curious...why will it take 2 months for you to get a surgical date? Is your doctor that busy or are you waiting for insurance approval? I am self pay and I THINK I will have my surgery the last week of March or first week of April but I don't know for sure yet. Good luck to all of us pursuing this dream. :)

Well, I'm not real sure. I mean, I know there is the two week pre op diet, and then insurance approval, which could take a month. So, theres 6 weeks tops, and I think the meetings with the psych and what not as well as paperwork would comprise the last two weeks. So, thats 8 weeks.

If the insurance should give a pre approval in 1 week or less, I would guess that the surgery date would be two weeks after that (preop diet) which would put total time at 5-6 weeks.

I think its all an estimate really.

That makes sense! I am just anxious and wish I could wave my magic wand and have the surgery tomorrow! :) I am impatient by nature and it seems to me that once I made up my mind to have the surgery that I expected to have it done the next week. Maybe this will teach me patience! ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
