Liquid diet to lose weight before scheduling....

Recommended Posts

I'm going back to see my surgeon on monday the 28th. I want to be sure I'm down enough weight where he will approve me for it so I'm going to start a liquid diet. no pop, no carbs, and extra Protein (shakes). Has anyone else ever done this? I need to lose about 4 pounds, but would like to lose a little bit more just in case their scale is WRONG! lol, I wish they could just take my word for it. and if I was smart, I would have loaded my pockets with weights on the initial weigh in day. lol

Hey girl I had this EXACT same problem and had to drop a quick 5lbs in a week time. I cut out all carbs and drank Protein Shakes and TONS of Water. I walked 30min a day. Also, if you want to go this far and lose some pounds by clearing your bowels go to the store and purchase Magnesium Citrate which is in the laxative section. My surgeon made me drink that stuff the night before surgery to clear my bowels and OMG that stuff works so mak sure you drink it early and you're near a bathroom. That is just one way to kind of trick the scales if necessary.

Yeah, I've totally stepped up my exercise. I do 20-30minutes of just dance 2, then I do walking or weight exercises. I may have to do that mag citrate thing. They give it to people for colonoscopies sometimes. lol. yeah, my surgeon is no-nonsense about the weight loss. he said I need to do my part for him to do his, or else forget it. :( it's the hardest thing I've ever done.

Yeah my surgeon was the same way and would cancel surgery if you gained any weight at all. He took it as a "you're not serious" thing. I actually gained 12lbs during Thanksgiving and Christmas and was freaking out that my srgery would be canceled. But I put my butt into high gear and lost it within 3 weeks. But seriosuly though, if I were you do the Magnesium Citrate. Any thing extra will help. Also when you go for your weigh-in wear your lightest clothes and be sure to take your shoes off!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
