5 days until surgery and I'm having a meltdown..

Recommended Posts

So...just was talking to my husband. He has to work on Thursday, so he won't be able to take me to the airport for my flight at 7pm. The last time I'll see him will be at noon before he leaves for work. He just walked out the door to go return some movies and I'm sitting here blubbering like a whale. I just keep thinking "what if that ends up being the last time I see my husband? What if I don't make it home?"

I really need somebody to talk me down this evening. I've officially hit the point of panic.I can't stop crying, and I can't even think straight. Is this normal? I'm so afraid.

Aw, I'm so sorry that you are so upset. I'm sure that everything will work out fine. I have not had the surgery myself yet, but from what I've read on here and other forums, this is totally normal to feel this way. Hang in there and go in optimistically. You will do great. Just think of all the reasons you are doing this. :D You'll be in my prayers.

I think it is very normal to have fears. I know I did. I did not have to leave my husband to fly away, but I had the sames thoughts when he left me in the pre-op area. I just kept telling myself that the chances of something going wrong in surgery were way less than the chances of something happening to me if I did not have the surgery.

Don't be afraid. This surgery was much easier than I had myself worked up for it to be. It is still surgery and the first few days were a little rough, but not nearly as bad as my imagination. I am now 1 month out and so glad I did this. I now weight less than I ever have in 15 years.

Good luck and let us know how things are going.

Thank you so much for your kind responses. I think I'm okay now...I just had a little hour long freakout for a minute there. I am so blessed that I have a sleeve twin who called to check up on me and talked me down from my ridiculous meltdown. I'm still a little bit on edge, but I'm sure it's nothing more than a little cold feet. I just have to make it through these next few days, and I know that things will be so much brighter on the other side of this surgery.

I know this may sound like a never ending repeat but I have finally made the decision to get sleeved and I would like to know if anyone is having surgery with Dr. Ramos-Kelly around March 16th. Also if anyone have any pics of the Oasis Hospital in Tijuana please reply or email me privately at angelia2931@yahoo.com One last thing I am SUPER nervous  but I know this too shall pass

Hi PYT,

there is a March Roll Call thread and there are some patients scheduled for March 16, but not sure if any are with Dr. Ramos Kelly.

There is one on the 15th of March with him though, so you will probably run into her.

well....look at this way....if it is the last time you see him....you won't know it....so don't dwell on it too much. If its your time to go...its your time.

Seriously though...you will be completely fine and when you see him next your new life will have begun!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
