Can pureed foods go down too easy

Recommended Posts

I have been trying the pureed foods and I find that some go down far easier than others. I have been eating warmed up ricotta and yogurt without blending them. They don't go down so easy. I can eat maybe 1/4 cup before I have to stop. A few days ago I started pureed chilli (red Beans, Tomato and turkey burger) which goes down easier than the cheese or yogurt. I eat 1/4 cup of that and I am full for an hour or more. Today I tried pureed Progresso light chicken dumpling Soup. I ate 1/4 cup of that and I was back for another 1/4 cup within 15 minutes. The soup seems to clear my stomach a whole lot faster than the other foods. Now I am worried that I will get hooked on the things that go down easy and side track my weight loss. I guess I will need to have some will power and keep it to one can of soup (2 cups) per day. Good thing it is only 160 calories.

The liquids and pureed will go down faster then solids. Part of the reason why we are not supposed to drink 30 before/after eating is that the fluids help slide the food through the sleeve faster then normal digestion and don't keep you full as longer. Think of Thanksgiving dinner and you ate too much, you took a drink of milk to help the food down. Now it is the reverse and we need to prevent this. As you move to solids you will start to feel fuller on smaller amounts of food for longer amounts of time.

Think of the Soup, it is a broth. The chili is Water based. The yogurt does have a slightly thicker consistency which is probably why it takes a minute. I think I felt like I ate too much on pureed's too and had to move to solids a few days early just to feel satisfied. Now that I am on solids, I don't really feel this way anymore.

all things carbs will go down too easy, raise your blood sugar fast a and make you hungry all over again. Meals should be Protein based. Puree some chicken or turkey and eat that.

Stay away from noodles and dumplings. When you start to eat meets you will notice they hang around longer and fill you up aLOT faster!

I hope that proves true for me but I can put away a whole cup of yogurt - no problems. No problems with cottage cheese either.... The only thing that makes my stomach say "OKAY, STOP NOW!" is the refried Beans and hummus. I can't wait to add meat just so I can get my Protein in easier!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
