I began this journey last summer. Fast forward......January 31st, I began my two weeks of liquids. I thought I was going to die the first 24 hours. After that, it became much easier. I wasn't hungry at all. I know that sounds crazy, but I really wasn't. I drank a low carb Protein Shake for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also drank crystal light all day. For dinner I would have low sodium veggie broth or low sodium chicken broth. I have Jello twice and a sugar free popsicle over the two weeks.

The day of surgery I had lost 17.5 lbs!

Feb. 14th. I had to be at the hospital at 12:00. Of course when you are not scheduled first thing in the morning, it WILL be delayed. I didn't go in until mid afternoon. I didn't get into my room until around 6:00pm. The next day was a blur. I slept most of the day. Going to have my barium swallow was painful, as I still felt drugged...but I did it.

My doctor came to see me in the morning, and told me if I could hold jello down, I could go home. On Wednesday I was able to do that and I left the hospital around 1:00pm. I went immediately to the couch and took a nap. I was in bed at 7:00pm for the night.

Thursday, Feb 17th. I felt like a new woman. I took a shower and took off my bandages (I had bathed, but not showered) and there were my 7 sterie strips! I walked out to the mailbox, and walked around the house alot. I could feel that the gas was moving more. I didn't sleep at all during the day, and because of the gas, I had a hard time sleeping last night. A friend stopped by and brought me a bullet shaker to make smoothies. I put three ice cubes along with 5 oz of Protein shake. I thought I was having a milk shake! I had broth for dinner and felt much better!

It is Feb. 18th. I am down 20lbs since January 31st.

I still feel this is not real. I feel great, and am at the weight when I married my husband. I am SO looking forward to loosing more weight, making healthy choices, looking and feeling FAB!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
