How Many Incisions and IV's Did You Have?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon said I would have 7 incisions. I thought the norm was 5??

Also, my surgeon has two IV lines started. I asked the anetheologist why? He said one is for the anesthetic and the other is a back up in case blood or extra fluids are needed.

I have to tell you, my surgeon is a perfectionist and does not like to take any chances with anything!

My surgery is in 4 days, Wed. Feb. 2nd (ground hog day) and I'm getting my head cold back! I called the hospital, cause he doesn't have an answering service and they contacted him. He said any decongestant over the counter that worked I could take. If I still had symptoms on Wed the surgery would be postponed. I'm getting more Claritin D. It works the best to clear my sinuses!

I had my surgery on 1/25, and I have 5 incisions and had two IV sites. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

I had 6 incisions. 5 are the norm but I had adhesions, so they had to do an extra one. The adhesions weren't related to anything in particular, some people just have them I'm told. Another guy who had surgery at the same time as me had 7, as he had a hernia.

4 insicions, one you have to look hard for to find and 1 IV. You can't argue with a surgeon who likes to be careful, don't worry about it too much. When you get your new life you won't care if you have 10 incisions :)

I hope you get your cold out of the way!

I have 2 incisions. My doctor actually used an existing incision that I had from a hernia repair that I had when

I was a young child. So I only ended up with one small incision that I did not have before this surgery.

I only had 1 IV site.

Good luck on your journey and keep us posted.

I had 4 incision and one from the drain and 1 iv. They did do a hernia repair and liver biospy so one is about an inch long. All the rest are really small.

I had 4 incisions & 1 IV. Three of my scars are so tiny i can barely see them anymore, the largest one is about 1 inch and it's in my belly botton so it's hardly noticable. Good luck with your surgery, I know you've been waiting for this day for a while. Yay :)

Thanks for the good wishes! Flygirl, I started this journey in April 2010, but it seems like years ago! Even when I found out that my insurance didn't cover the sleeve, I proceeded on with all the testing and got a denial last August. God must want me to have this surgery as Anthem in Ohio started covering the sleeve in November.

I have a really good feeling about this surgeon and this hospital. They've had a bariatric department for over 30 years. This is the hospital where Dr. Hess was practicing when he developed the DS surgery. I have worked with 4 women he performed that surgery on. They all have malabsorbtion issues, and one died of cancer.

Dr. Lalor does alot of RNY's and in extreme cases the DS, but I know he is very supportive of the sleeve. I think he will be doing alot more sleeves as more insurance companies start covering them.

I had 5 incisions and 2 different IVs but thats because one was taken out after my leak test but had to be put back in the other arm that evening when I wasn't feeling well.

5 incisions-they didn't hurt afterward past the first day.

1 IV site-but my sleeve sister that day had to have them start several times just to get one site..

The time in the hospital SUCKS but recovery is pretty fast.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
