Does anyone know if the lap band can be done with an epidural instead of under a general anesthetic, since it's done laproscopically.

This question has been asked before, and I think the general consensus is no. The surgical procedure involves inflating the patient's abdominal cavity with inert gas, and the sensation (pain) of that would not be effected by the action of an epidural.

General is the way to go, methinks.

I'm with you Alex... when I think of surgery... knock me out... I don't want to hear or see anything when they do mine. Nope... unconscious would get my vote!

Thanks, guys.

That's what I figured. I'm not sure I wouldn't even want it that way.......just wanted to know if it was even an option.

I see the doctor in exactly 52 minutes!! It seems like it's been so long, just since I started looking into having the surgery. I know I've got tons of tests and appointments to go. I want to do it today!!

Hi Msknow,

I so know how you are going through. I felt the same way at the beginning. I have been through sooo many tests and will hopefully be banded in mid June. So the total process for me is 3 mos. That is if I have no more problems, or bumps in the road.

Good luck!

Baileym

I know how you feel Msknow... I've had a very hard time being patient! I just want to get the paperwork into the insurance but have to do things in order... I would be happy if they would just get me into see the surgeon. So... can submit another two weeks worth of food charts next Thursday and hopefully they will decide that I can adhere to a bandlike diet and get on with it. I guess the good part is that I am already losing weight so all of the waiting time will not be worthless. (o: Good Luck with everything....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
