i'm scared it stretched!

Recommended Posts

I really don't think our new tummies stretch much; if they will/do - we'd have to work at it and for me, it would be really uncomfortable. I DO know where you're coming from though. I too obsess over this and other things like waking up one day and my hunger has returned, but in the back of my mind, I'm pretty sure I'm worrying for no reason!

At the seminar we were told that it would 'stretch' 10% - 15% from just after post-op...but you have to remember how little it is when we get out of surgery! My doctor left me with a 3 oz stomach!! So after it relaxes, heals and reaches it's full capcity, that really isn't much. The first couple of weeks post-op, I could only eat an eighth of a cup of broth, some times less, and then mushies I did good to eat an eighth of a cup that second week. Now at eight months out, I can eat a half cup of cottage cheese or spaghetti or a half an English muffin with a slice of American cheese. Those are examples. I can almost eat two eggs but I can eat 1 egg with a piece of toast. This seems like a TON of food to me when I think back to what I was eating!! I will STILL ask my husband, "did I eat a lot? " He thinks I'm nuts, I'm sure of it!! LOL You are not alone....I've been at goal since the last week of Nov and I could lose MORE weight. I still worry!!! :)

this is when i find myself thinking it's streched. but when i'm eating my steak, chicken, etc, i am still surprised at how fast i feel full. i still love my sleeve.

i just have mini freak-out episodes from time to time - LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
