2 Week Pre OP Diet

Recommended Posts

I need help guys. I have my surgery on the 27th. I was put on a 2 week liquid diet last week. I can't stay with it. I am so hungry. Yesterday I ate a real dinner the only thing I had eatin since last Wednesday. Today I am trying to get back on full liguids. How did you manage to get by without cheating.

I have not done well. I did admit it to the doctor and he said to please try. I have this fear when he cuts me open..... crab legs, steak, and Thai food will jump out and dance around the OR and way in the bottom of my stomach one lowly can of slim fast............It is what it is........ I hope that he will do the surgery anyway......... NOT cheating forthe next 48 hours until surgery!

My surgery is on Friday in Mexico and my husband and I have not been put on any kind of pre-op diet. I am a little concerned about this because everyone else I have heard from was put on at least a week of pre op liquids. Kinda strange, huh! Good luck with your pre-op diet and upcoming surgery:) :) :)

My best advice is to drink lots and lots of Protein to stave off the hunger. Protein shakes (with skim milk ) or powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.

Remember: The liquid diet is to prepare you for surgery. If the doctor opens you up and cannot get to your stomache because your liver is still too large then you will not get your band and you are placing yourself at risk of having your liver torn and damaged.

My advice is to call the nutritionist at your doctor's office and explain the difficulty you're having. When I did this, the nutritionist told me she'd rather me eat 4 oz of solid Protein (chicken for most, soy for vegetarian me) than to full fledged cheat. I still lost 12 lbs and even at a high BMI, my surgery was a snap.

See if you can break the rules with your doc's permission. If you can't, you WILL make it through this. The band is SO SO worth this sacrifice.

I'm thinking about you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
