GAS when Eating!!! Advice Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am day 15 post op. I have been very lucky. No problems up to this point. I started smooth consistence yesterday and it's been a real struggle. As soon as I take one tiny bit, i get a gas bubble in my stomach. So much so that I have to stop and walk around for a little bit. Can you let me know if this is normal and if it happened to you and most importantly......did you take anything and will it pass???

Thanks,

Nina

i get what i affectionately call "the bubble" now, and i am a week out. I was getting it almost immediately after my surgery and it has slowly been going away. i noticed i get it when i eat or drink too fast or too much at one time. it hurts but goes away almost as quick as it pops up. if i stretch or move it goes away. and the frequency has lessened too as i heal. so i think it might just be part of it. my doc has me on some meds to restart my inner workings lol (for lack of a better word). and i think its helping too.

Thanks!! I have no problem with the liquids. It's anything that has a thicker texture. I keep saying to myself that I have to reintroduce more foods to my new stomach so there may be some discomfort. My sister-in-law who had gastric bypass told me a good trick......she used a candle warmer to keep her plate warm because it takes so long to eat. 1/2 cup of cream of wheat takes about an hour and I can't finish it!! LOL :o

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
