African American Sleevers

QweeNique we didn't gain this weight overnight and we shouldn't expect a miracle! You've done so well! Be happy with your achievements. I know I wouldn't have been able to do this without the help of my sleeve. Please set small goals and Celebrate when you reach those milestones! Stay encouraged throughout this process.

Thank you! I guess I just don't want to get stuck like I did with the band. I'm happy with my results but so eager to get to my personal goal! Thank you for the encouragement!

I have a question for all my post-op. I'm 1 day out myself and can't drink Water Every time I sip I throw up any suggestions? My doctor won't release me until I can tolerate some liquids

Hey conggrats and blessings on joining the fam. I had that same issue at first till my nurse kept it 100 and asked if I'm taking the old me sips....(more like gulps) or the new me sips. It made me slow down. Try one or two tiny pieces of ice let those melt then go down first. And see if that makes it any better. It takes time for your stomach to get used to the changes. So literally 1-2 drops of water is barely enough to have to swallow but that's how big your first few sips should be. I wish u the greatest journey of your life. I pray everything in this new life of yours is exciting as well as pleasing, and that you have no regrets. I know I don't.

Sleeved 9-4-12 starting weight about 449lbs, date of surg- 419 today I am 187.2lbs

Hi ATLGirl' date='

Please forgive any errors as I am writing this message from my phone. I was quite excited to see this post after lurking on this discussion board for weeks. I have acquired so much useful info and courage from this board. I am just ending the beginning stage of getting approval for the vsg. My insurance company required a psych eval, documentation of prior weightloss attempts, a letter of medical necessity from my pcp, 3 sessions with a nutritionist, as well as clearance from a pulmonary dr and cardiologist. I have completed everything and have my 3rd this Friday. YAY!!!! So after Friday I will be playing the waiting game. I hope this process goes quickly. I teach and was hoping to be sleeved on my spring break (early April) but now if I get an earlier approval I might decide to do it sooner than April.

I see that you will be sleeved this weekend. I wish you lots of luck with your surgery. Are you required to do a two week pre op liquid diet? How has your pre op journey been going?

Nikki[/quote']

My 3 months ended Jun30th I was sleeved 7/22/13. I return to work 8/5/13.

FYI - relaxed my hair yesterday. It had been ten weeks and I couldn't wait any longer. I was so scared it would all fall out but everything was fine. I use no lye regular strength.

I know what you mean I went to the salon last week for a touch up and I have been trying not to manipulate my hair to much. I noticed last night that it is still shedding quite a bit though - I'm 4 months PO. Good news is I'm 75 lbs. lighter!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
