sip sip sipping!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am typing from my hospital bed in Mexicali. I just had the plication done by Dr. Abril. I feel great. I still do not have pain, just discomfort. I am finally able to sip some tea and juice, with a teaspoon! It is really agonizing, but I knew this was coming. I really thank you all for support. I am still a newbie to this forum and I find myself checking in a lot. I wish there were more of us, plication patients, that were here to tell their stories, good bad or otherwise. I would say another great doctor to add to the list of good guys is Dr. Abril. The hospital he works out of is a small but VERY cozy friendly place. Santa Catalina is the name of the hospital, Check it out!! Thanks again.

So glad that you are doing well! I am scheduled to have this surgery on the 15th of February so please please keep us updated on your progress. I would love to know what to look out for and especially what kind of weight loss you are seeing. Hang in there!

I only had vomiting right after waking up, but nothing since. My pain is almost non existant. I would hate to have such a good experience and you have a terrible one. Not all patients are the same. I was scared shitless before and the Dr. was like, don't even have it done if you are this nervous because you will make yourself sick, but now I can't believe I was so scared. The Doc says you can never tell who is gonna be okay and who is going to have a hard time with it. That is fair, I think. I wish both of you the best of luck and that you both feel as great as I do. Ciao!!

melanie...everyday will get better...and keep in mind that you will be able to eat regular foods again after the healing just in smaller quanties...I had surgery on 12/20 and just started eating regular foods but I remember being down because I thought I would never be able to eat regular again...like i said everyday will get better and over time you get use to your stomach being smaller and no your limitations...Congrats Melanie...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
