A change of plans. Thanks gallbladder !

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was supposed to have my gallbladder removed & get my sleeve on Monday January 3rd. But...my gallbladder decided it no longer wanted to be in me. I went fir my pre op on December 30 and was in so much pain that my surgeon sent me directly to the ER. He said it looked bad & he couldn't help me. I ended up having emergency surgery on Friday morning. I have a new date to get sleeved. February 22, 2011.

I'm nervous & I'm having doubts now. I didn't want 2 surgeries. Do I want to go through that again? The anesthesia is this scary part.

I'm at home recovering from this one and I'm stressing about the other.

:(

I am sorry your gallbladder decided not to co-operate. I hope your recovery is going well. My gallbladder surgery was so much more painful than my lapband. As far as having two surgeries... sometimes we just cannot plan what happens in life. You are still recovering from your emergency surgery... I am sure you will feel differently in a week or two.

I had my lapband surgery 01/08 and then had my gallbladder removed 08/08. My gallbladder "almost" didn't co-operate either. I was in the ER a week before my surgery and luckily I was able to wait.

I don't have a gallbladder . It was taken out years ago. And from what I understand, it is best to not have one going into the sleeve surgery anyways!!!! So your one step ahead!! My surgery is scheduled for 1/21/2011. I'm so excited! It will be o.k.

Darn gallbladder. I had mine removed about 12 years ago, so as my WLS dr. said "one less thing to worry about". It's funny now that I have fresh scars from the VSG I cannot even FIND my old scars from the gallbladder.

I'm sure you wouldn't have picked having 2 surgeries back to back, but hopefully you can heal and move on. OH and congrats on -23 lbs woo hoo!

So sorry that happened, but I will say one important thing: THE SLEEVE IS SO WORTH IT! Any pain I had from the surgery is just an afterthought. I love my sleeve!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
