New Here...........5 days post-op

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am a 33 year old that had gastric lap band surgery in Sept. 2008. Never had any success with it. I couldn't keep my band filled. I would swell every time and be unable to drink Water. I had numerous hang ups. Don't know how many times I felt like my chest would cave in! Anyway, I started my weight loss journey at 280 lbs, and weighed 260 lbs. last week when I underwent the conversion from lapband to sleeve. My surgery was Thurs. 12/30/10, and after 4 nights in the hospital, I'm on my 2nd day home. So far, things are definitely better than the recovery from the band. (I spent 10 days NPO after my band, because my stomach had swollen completely shut) I read the posts from this discussion forum for weeks before making the final decision to do a conversion instead of just a removal. I am currently 254.2 lbs, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone and tracking my progress. I am the mother of 3 amazing children, and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 14 years. He has never had to worry about his weight, so he doesn't quite get my struggle. I'm blessed though, cause he loves me as I am. I'm just ready to love myself as well. Thanks for listening.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
