can i stretch my sleeve????

Recommended Posts

I live in New York and my doctor told me most people in the northeast are deficient in Vitamin D. Since i started taking it even before my surgery I have felt so much better. It does help with the sweet tooth.

Good Luck,

Janine

That is really interesting about the Vit D and sweets!! I am also in NY and just had my labs done last week so I'm waiting to hear back from my doc on what I need (if any) to start taking!

So which is it, can we stretch our tummies back out or not? Some say yes, some say no!! I do not possibly see HOW we could ever stretch it out too much....not from what is now 3 oz to what WAS like a deflated football, which they say was approx. 51 oz. I have not been hungry since I woke up from surgery, my 'new' hunger is an empty feeling occasionally, but nothing that I would call real hunger. I feel lucky, I hope it stays this way! So, which is it, does it stretch or not?!!! What do we believe??!!

According to this article, as well as my doctors, and other articles I read, it is totally possible to stretch out your sleeve.. but over TIME, not over night. I'm not worried about it happening any time soon, but like the article say... :'VGS surgery shrinks your stomach, not your brain." So , if someone has a severe eating disorder that is not being treated, it seems like that after years of working to stretch out your sleeve, you could do it. http://www.personal-nutrition-guide.com/gastric-sleeve.html I find it hard to believe that one could ever stretch it out to it's old size though.... like you, I haven't really been hungry since surgery, but when I do eat, I can only eat a few bites. I'd throw up if I tried to really shovel it in, LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
