Dr C Gurgle question

Recommended Posts

what actually causes really loud gurgles - 9 months post up in lower stomach and upper bowels, I had stuck food and irritated stoma and gurgled really loudly (I was mistaken for coffee pot) for a full7 days afterwards. why does the stomache gurgle so l;oudly - it happened within seconds of eating or drinking.

Basically anything that irritates the stomach can cause gurgling. Plus a tight band from something stuck causes a little swelling. Just a guess I don't think anyone knows the real answer.

For me, I dont know if I "gurgle" in the true sense of the word, like its not like liquid going down the sink.

But it happens randomly, not when I eat or drink necessarily. Its like I dont often burp in the normal sense of the word anymore, but the burp happens in my stomach, air moves from the lower stomach to the upper through the stoma and that makes a long gurgling burp and then the gas just dissipates and I dont burp in my throat like I once would have. Does that make any sense? I can feel the air bubble through and it makes a loud rumble. It is a bit embarrassing, lol.

I asked my Dr about gurgling as I do have it sometimes and I mean all day even if I'm not eating at the time. He said banded people do have more internal gas than others. There is the tendency for us not to burp as much, especially the tighter the band. The gas that is normally expelled burping will now travel south to be expelled from the bottom! Thus...the gurgling. Some foods make it worse, especially greens. Hope that helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
