Shiraitaki Noodles?

Recommended Posts

They smell horrific, I tried to get passed the smell, but it never failed, I would end up gagging over the smell. I was told rinsing them over and over and over would help with the smell, but it never helped me any. I stick to dreamfields Pasta or spaghetti squash during my losing stage.

I've tried these a couple different times. I wish they were good because they are such low calorie, but man they are nasty! They smell like fish and the texture is like rubber bands. If you happen to find a way that they taste good, please post it. I've had no luck.

I tried them a couple of times. I rinsed them well and then boiled for abit and it helped only slightly. The texture is something to get used to. If you think they are a replacement for spaghetti then you will be upset with the result. I am not a true fan and will not go out of my way to get them again.

I read somewhere that weight loss surgery patients should NOT eat these....It was from a Japanese WLS Dr. on a mostly RNY site....

Here it is:

Just one word here.

DON'T!!

They are Japanese food stuff so I'm quite familiar with them.

They don't digest easily, and can cause gut blockage--no joke, I've seen and heard of patients here who had to have emergency surgery for gut blockage, and these turned out to be the culprit. Sure, it's low calorie, but since you have a very small pouch and need to get the amount of nutrition you neeed from your small intake, plus the fact that your gut has been rearranged and is not the one straight line the regular layout is, Shirataki noodles just aren't worth it.

if I may plug what is in my opinion a far superior (and cheaper, and healthier...) Pasta swap: zucchini Pasta

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/23/health/22recipehealth.html

I made this a while back, sprinkled just a bit of salt and pepper on it, saute in a bit of olive oil (I use a bit less than what the recipe said) and I put some feta cheese and diced tomatoes on it. Better than regular pasta actually!! I love the nutty, sweet taste of zucchini and it really has a pasta-like consistency. I bought shiritaki noodles on the recommendation of hungrygirl a while back (I think she is a sponsor/getting paid to plug them so I would take her ravings about it with a grain of salt) and I was unimpressed. We can put a man on the moon but we can't make fake noodles that are halfway decent? There are other veggie imitations that are healthier and tastier IMO.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
