Hi again,

Increase Water intake and try to add an extra meal to get enough food in. The pain you feel after 2-3 bites could be due to eathing to fast, that is what happens to me. I've been told that main meals should take about 30 minutes to eat, and wow - I'm struggling with that myself! :-)

Another thing to remember is that just as before surgery, your monthy cycle can affect the weight.

Best wishes and good luck!

Kerri, believe me I know exactly what you're going through! At this point it's probably more important to just have patience with yourself. You're barely 5 weeks out - you will figure it all out.

Worrying and stress isn't going to help.

You probably shouldn't weigh as often either... maybe wait 2 weeks, keep positive and on the right path. The scale will be kind to you again soon. Focus mostly on your eating, and maybe add in a walk here and there. It WILL happen for you, I absolutely promise. Even though I still think your weight loss to date is still really good.

Hugs!!!

Don't worry about the stall - it will work itself out. I did the same thing at about 3 or 4 weeks out. Gained 3 lbs and the scale didn't move for almost two weeks. But now it has started to come off again and I have lost another 10 lbs in the past two - three weeks. it's weird but it works. I used to drink a ton of Water and can't really stomach it anymore plan. So I mix in the Kellogg's K2o and it has another 5 grams of Protein. I am not concerning myself too much with carbs etc, only my protein and my water and I seem to be doing fine.

I doubled up my Protein Shake started yesterday to see if that will help me, I'll let you all know on Monday if its helped or not. Also I found away i can get the Protein Shakes in better, instead of 1 scoop of Protein and 8oz milk Im doing 2 scoops of protein, a package of suger free hot cocoa and 16oz of Water. To me its not as sweet or thick and i can handle it alot better.

Thanks for all the encouragment I really needed it!!! I'll let you know on Monday when i weigh in if I was able to break the stall.

I'm 7 months out and I agree with several of the others... don't worry! You'll experience more than one stall and if you just hang in there with doing the right thing, you'll have a good loss before you know it. Then you'll feel great and keep losing for a bit and then stall again. It's part of the process.

I know it feels crazy when you aren't eating hardly anything compared to pre-surgery but there are these adjustment periods and there's not a lot you can do about it except keep on keeping on. And that pays off, big time.

Now if I could just figure out how to get my hair growing again. I thought I was going to escape the dreaded Hair loss problem but at exactly 6 months it started falling out and my hair is so thin now I hardly have any. OMG, Tiff does it ever start coming back?

Yep, it grows back. I used Folicure extra care Shampoo (available at Sally's beauty supply or online) every other day. It strips your scalp of build up and allows the new growth to come through. I started losing at 3.5 months out, and it lasted a solid 3 months, but I had new growth coming in before the shedding stopped. I never took Biotin or other nail/hair supplements, just kept up with Multi-Vitamin and used that shampoo every other day.

That's a new one on me. Haven't heard of Folicure before. I bought Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and styling spray. No help at all so far. I will try Folicure. Thanks very much for the tip. I'm glad to know that you're getting new growth. It's been awhile since I've been online here and last I heard you were still experiencing a lot of fall out. It's a pretty creepy feeling to have such thin hair.

Kerri, have you pooped yet? If not try a glycerin bulb. At about 2 weeks out I got so badly backed up I went to the ER. They examined me, took X-rays, and sent me home without treatment, apparently it wasn't as bad as I thought, but it was as bad as I have ever experienced! I had been taking X-Lax and Miralax but nothing helped that one big blockage that wouldn't budge! (Sorry, TMI I know.) On the way home I stopped at CVS and picked up a couple things - magnesium citrate (which is what they ask you to take if you're going to get a colonoscopy, cleans you out rather violently!) and glycerin bulbs. I tried a glycerin bulb first, and that worked. (Didn't really want to use the magnesium citrate if I didn't have to....) Ever since, I take Miralax every day in my morning coffee, to prevent that from ever happening again, and that works just fine, especially with the Calcium and PPIs we take, which I guess can be a little constipating.

Then really start pushing the Water. Your body needs Water to release the fat. Many times on this board and on OH, people who stall end up breaking the stall by upping Protein and water.

I'm glad you post this or I would have. I am 5 weeks out myself this Friday and have seen my scale go from 196 to 198 inn a day when I only eat a little. It makes me fustrated. I am getting stuff read for the southbeach diet in hope to restart ketosis. I'm at my wits end to. We'll ge through it.

im 5 weeks post-op today and have only lost 17lbs. I was down 15 lbs at 2 weeks post-op, at 2.5 weeks i had to get IV fluids which made me gain 5 lbs. i keep looking at everyones weightloss that had surgery after me and most have lost way more than me. :( Im tracking my Protein, carbs and calories trying to keep it around 500-600 cals, 60 Protein and under 30 carbs. i know I'm a slow loser but to see my scale only move .4 in a week and I hardly eat anything just makes me want to cry.

Im having problems when i first get to work, the past 3 days i damn near past out while dealing cards and have to go sit down for a 10 mins and then im fine. not sure whats causing this my mom thinks low blood suger. TMI- Im also having problems with BMs Im lucky to go once a week and then its not much that comes out. Ive tryed maralax doesnt help, 4 days of exlax in a row never went.

Any advice?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
