Hi! I am totally new to this!! :) I am going in for my seminar tomorrow and am not really sure what to expect. I have a BMI of 35 and nervous that they will kick me out. LOL! The nurse said to wear boots. hehe......so at a MTF, what should I expect? I am going to EAMC at Fort Gordon. Anyone else go there? Any info/advice would be GREAT! Thanks!

MTF= military treatment facility (Gotta love the world of acronyms with the US military LOL)

As far as what to expect, the seminar will cover all the surgeries they offer. You might meet the nutritionist briefly. Fill out paperwork, they typically want your past diet attempts, what co-morbidities you have such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid problems, joint issues, etc etc.

With a BMI of 35, you'll more than likely need to have at least one co-morbidity. The key to getting approval at a MTF is to make your case for why you need surgery. You probably won't get a lot of one on one time with the surgeon, so if you have questions, ask him. Once you go through the class, they will review your paperwork, and every MTF has a different program so just follow their steps and be patient. As you know it's a "hurry up and wait" thing with the military. Don't get discouraged, and remember that these things take time with Tricare and the scheduling of bariatric procedures.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me.

Hi, I am in a MTF in FL and having the surgery at the base hospital. This is what they asked of me:

rolleyes.gifBMI>42

rolleyes.gifCo-Morbidity-for me PCOS but even if I did not have the PCOS they still use BMI

rolleyes.gifAttend a Seminar

rolleyes.gifAttend a nutrition class(mine talked a LOT about gastric bypass...almost nothing on sleeve)

rolleyes.gifSchedule a Psych consult

rolleyes.gifSchedule app with the surgeon(this is my next appointment so I will tell you once that happens what will need to happen)

Hope this relieves some of the anxiety.Banane43.gif(I am jumping through all the hoops)

As far as advice so far is to spend as much time here reading, watch youtube videos of people who have had the procedure, read about it I honestly felt the nutrition class was too fast and did not go into the sleeve if I had to rely on that I would be freaking out.

Sorry for the "jibberish". Thanks guys for helping me out! :) I had my orientation today and all is well. I just have to schedule my psych eval and go to the support group tonight then another nutrition class then my appt with the doctor. Then I have an ultrasound and get my date. :) I guess that is how it goes!! :) HAHA So I will be having surgery around January or February I guess. I am excited and nervous! :)

I am at an MTF at West Point and it's been SO EASY! I met with the surgeon, NUT, then labs, chest x-rays, EKG, psych, pulmanary and EDG. I started this all on the 1st of Oct. 1 and surgery is Monday the 15th!!

GOOD LUCK!!

How was your experience at Fort Gordon? Did you have the VSG at Fort Gordon? It maybe an option for me and I'm trying to gather all the information possible. No detail to small!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
