I would be careful about going to regular food so soon ClC you want things that basically slide down because the nerves were cut you won't know when you are full or stressing the staple line. I'd be on full liquids or mushies if I were you.

Cottage cheese

Soups (no meat)

yogurt

mashed potatoes

sweet potatoes

Beans

refried Beans

squash

watermelon

melons

Hello All,

Had VSG on 10/25/2010 and had lost seven pounds pre-opt. Went in for my first week follow up and had lost a total of 20.5 lbs. Started off at a weight of 292. Weighed today and have lost a total of 27 ibs. I am excited to read everyone's success stories as they motivate me through this process. In the end all we do will be worth it for our health and well being.. keep up the good work!

I had my surgery Oct 26th. It's the beginning of wk 3 for me. So far pre op I lost 21 lbs. And have lost about 23 lbs post op.

I have a problem with getti g on the scale DAILY!! And lately no change. I was going to the gym but took the last 2 days off. Gonna try to make it today. Trying to hit 30 lbs down after 4 wks. I hope this stall doesn't last for too long.

Good luck October sleevers. :-)

I was sleeved Oct 26th and have been eating mushies and very soft solids for the past week. My surgeon refused to put me on prilosec, or any other acid reducer for that matter saying there is no credible evidence that it helps after surgery, and I found that the hunger pangs I was experiencing were the worst I've ever felt. Additionally, the Protein drinks that I drank before surgery made my dry heave simply at the smell. My post-op appointment was scheduled for 21 days after surgery so I couldn't easily discuss these issues with my surgeon. I did what I had to do to survive. I bought Prilosec OTC and began taking that. It has helped with some of the extreme hunger pangs. I started with blended Soups and progressed within a couple days to regular Soup, eggs, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, yogurt, cheese, rice, Pasta and even beef and chicken that I chew thoroughly before swallowing. I'm eating between 400-600 calories per day and am not losing anything. Today is my 2 week anniversary and I have only lost about 7 pounds since surgery. Basically, I haven't lost anything since I've been home from the hospital on day 3. Chfroman, I feel your pain. I'm not sure this is going so well for me either. My water/fluid intake is ok, but could be better. I'm averaging around 32-40 oz. per day. Please, please, if you have any advice for me, let me know!!!!

Start taking and recording your measurements weekly. I know you will notice a difference even if the scale seems to be stuck, and it will make you feel better. Your body is in shock and is adjusting. You need to relax and give it more time. Glad the prilosec is working for you. You sound like you are doing great with your intake and fluids.

Hang in there! It will happen.

I had my surgery the 21st of October and I have lost about 20lbs since then-I haven't had any real problems I am getting about 50-64oz of Water in daily and about 43-69grams of Protein I should be getting in 70 but somedays are harder than others. the only problem I have is that I dont get a full feeling at all I just measure out my food and eat it slowly and dont drink with my meal I just hope that is what i am supposed to be doing- this is all a learning expierence for us and I dont think that you are going to get 100% of all the stuff you need to get in at the beginning there is just no way, but I just keep on working on it, and everyday is a new day if you dont do good one day with your Protein or liquid intake there is always the next day- oh and the protein I get is called nectar they have all kinds of flavors and you can mix it with Water or crystal light I they have it at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

I was sleeved on October 13 and I've lost about 31 pounds, half of that pre-op and half-post op. On October 24, I started a wicked stall. Today I lost 2 pounds, so fingers crossed that this stall is over.

Also, I have to add that Crystal Light is EVIL and if any of you are drinking it or anything like it (full of aspertame) and you are in a stall, STOP DRINKING IT and go back to only Water. Aspertame interferes with loss of bodyfat. It made me retain Fluid like crazy and the two pounds I just lost were because I stopped drinking Crystal Light.

Hi,

I had my sleeve done on Oct 15. I am currently down 20 lbs, but have been having Constipation issues. I just started mushies, only eating them 1 meal a day. I can eat a half of scrambled egg, and 2 oz of refried low fat Beans.

I have a total TMI question, has anyone ever gotten to the point where they are in so much intestinal pain and then all of a sudden all heck breaks loose. On Friday, I was in the bathroom for over an hour non-stop pooping. It was so painful. is this normal???

thanks,

Patti

Actually, it is normal. Your body is cleaning out your intestines from all the crap that has been in there. Now it is having a jumpstart on your digestion. Happened to me as well. LOL

Thank you, Donnie, for the words of encouragement. I am now 3.5 weeks out and am doing much better now. I weighed this morning and have now dropped 14 lbs. since my day of surgery. At this point I can almost finally say that "I love my sleeve"!

Hello there Octobers, I'm bumping this up to see how December is treating us. I'm losing slooooow. I was quick out of the gate but I'm lucky to be down any if not up on the scale. I go down 3lbs up a pound stall for a week. I wish things would just get moving! Emotionally I feel pretty good. I do feel like once I get skinnier I might try to relive my teen years that I should have had. I really want to go out to a club in some super cute clothes! So how is everyone?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
