Hello Everyone!

In 1983 I weighed 310lbs a the age of 18. I had a gastric segmetation (kind of like the lap band) and lost down to 157 lbs. Ten years later I started having complications and the band had to be removed. Within 2 yrs, I gained all the weight back plus. I am now 46 yrs old and weigh 347.5 lbs. Not only do I look awful but I feel awful. I am scheduled to have a VSG on 11/15/10 at Christus St. Elizabeth Bariatric Center in Beaumont, TX. For the last 2 weeks I have been on a 1,400 calorie diet and have managed to lose about 4 lbs. Tomorrow I start a 2 week liquid diet. Tomorrow is also my psych eval and appointment with surgeon. The anticipation for this surgery is eatng me alive. My family (teenagers) are not being very supportive. My job is giving me trouble about taking off two weeks for this surgery. I feel very frustrated. Need support please.......

You are taking charge of your own health. I say kudo's to you! You might want to sit down with your teens and discuss why they are not being supportive. It could be due to not knowing enough information about the sleeve surgery.

There is alot of support here on the boards. It might be good to find a buddy on here that you can just talk too when you are feeling overwhelmed.

I can relate. I'm a single mom, and the only people I've told about my surgery are my teenage children. I know they're apprehensive about the surgery, and I've talked to them about it and all that I've learned about it in my research. My surgery is Dec. 1st and it's all I can think about! I just want to tell you that I think you're doing something great for yourself and your family. They'll come to see that in time.

We are here for you! You don't live far from me, as I am from Houston. You absolutely should do this for yourself! You are worth it. Message me anytime. I am in the process of revision from a failed painful lapband to the sleeve.

Hi there. Not sure where you live but i am also in Houston. Who is doing your surgery? I have been a single mom and I know it would be very scary for you and kids. End result is the important thing and I am

Always telling everyone who does surgery is most important decision as this is a very serious surgery. There are some great soca some horrible ones and some avg ones. Go for great.

Your kids sound like they are not being supportive but w teens it is so hard to see what is going on inside. But I would insist that they be involved so they will feel good about that later. Also maybe shop a lot early on w what you will need. I bought so much stuff I did not use. What I mostly used was a nectar Protein, homemade broth so lots of frozen chickens and onions and celery. I ate a lot of Jello and drank a lot of weak tea and koolaid. I drank a lot of hot green tea. If you can handle unflavored Protein that is good, I could not. I use 20 oz rubbermaid shakers you gotta have a favorite sipping cup. I still use them. I used a few protein bullets for emergencies.

Take care of you. I hope your job will be supportive. I went in a week but it was too soon. It helped me tho to be at work bc I was getting depressed at home. But I sat and cried the first day back which seemed very hormonal kind of a let down. Kinda embarrassing but I got thru it. You will know more to expect than I did.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
