I was fortunate to have my doctor decide to do a single incision VSG through the belly button. I was the first ever! I have no scar and was home the same night as my surgery. I am 3 months out and have had no complications. I have lost 55 pounds so far. If given a choice, you should look into this procedure. Fewer holes in your abdominal wall and quicker healing.

Congrats on your surgery! ! ! I know several people that had the single incision sleeve procedure, and they rave about the procedure as well. Best wishes on your continued success.

Too bad I can't have it done. Since my band has to come out first, I don't think it will fit through my belly button! LOL Pretty amazing they can do that!

yeah, that would be nice, although i already had the 5 hole procedure, and then a revision of my band after that, he did cut over the old incisions, but now they are thicker and redder. I guess its a lilltle late for a belly button procedure for me..LOL

Hi welcome to VST and congrats on your great weight loss. May I ask did you have your surgery with Kaiser?

I am 3 months out and have had no complications. I have lost 55 pounds so far. If given a choice, you should look into this procedure. Fewer holes in your abdominal wall and quicker healing.

Congratulations! This procedure has been available for a while - instrument used is called a "spider." Cost on surgery tends to be higher, but a great option.

After I read you post last night I sent my Kaiser surgeon an email and asked if they do that and if so if I could be a candidate for it. Well my surgeon is out until Monday so his collegue responded with a very vague response "yes it can be done but it has more risks involved, if you would like more info ask Dr. Fisher next week".

Do you happen to know what the extra risks are?

Thanks for your time.

Sara

No, this procedure was not covered by my insurance. I payed cash.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
