Discomfort on Left Side

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was my first day back at work (I work alone in a very low-stress office). I'm 13 days post-op and toward the end of my work day, my left side above my lower left portal/wound and under my boob, started feeling really tight and sore. Also, right above the lower left portal, I can feel a bit of a lump. When I got home from work, I took Ativan (muscle relaxer) and the discomfort/borderlne pain went away. I felt fine this morning. Now I'm back at work sitting at my desk, and the tightness has returned.

I'm waiting for a call back from my doctor, but while I wait I need to vent. Anybody else had this experience? I don't have a fever, soft food and liquid are going down easily, I have no other symptoms, my left side's not hotter than my right, etc. But I'm getting a little freaked out.

That's interesting because I have experienced that same tightness on the left side right under my boob usually when I am sleeping and go to turn over. I can't see anything there and can't feel anything weird. Wasn't sure what was causing it. Don't know enough about anatomy to know what exactly is there. Same location that you describe. Anyone else?

Just talked to my surgeon's office. They said this is normal, that the stitching on the left side makes the hairiest wound, this pulling and discomfort and slight lumpy feeling is part of the normal healing process, and that I shouldn't freak out unless the area turns red and/or I start running a fever. I feel better about it now, but I'm going to watch it like a hawk.

If you scroll further down in this forum, maybe even onto the next page, you'll see my thread about "lower left pain!" I had the same thing nagging at me and really hurting. My doctor told me the same thing and pinpointed the pain at my appt. He said that's where those sutures are down deep, and they take the longest to heal. Sometimes 6 to 8 weeks! I am 5 weeks out now and it just stopped bothering me, thank goodness. I was freaking out and worried too!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
