Any December Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Well, I got busy this week and I stocked up on Soups, sf pudding, Protein Shakes, chewable vitamins and bought a recliner. I get really nervous if I don't keep myself busy. My surgery date is Dec. 1st, pending insurance approval, which I expect to get. Everything was submitted last week, and when approval comes through I have my final pre-op mtg. with my surgeon, any tests he wants to do and a tour of the surgery center. I know when I get ins. approval it will really make it real! I just want to get this over with, the anxiety is no fun! I'm happy to have contact with others who are having their surgery around the same time.

How did you select Dr. Kelly - I am considering him. I had my band removed Oct 18th and and want the revision to sleeve. I was successful with the band but am now ready for a better solution (VSG) - any thoughts you could share on Dr. Kelly would be great. I have also considered Dr. Aceves and Dr. Rodriguez Star Medica

I have my surgery 16 December in TJ Mexico with Dr Kelly. Being on Clear Liquids for Christmas may be inconvenient, but we will all start this New Year differently...losing. When everyone is moaning about how much weight they gained over Christmas, we can be confident that we did not. For me that is a big first. Good luck everyone.

Hello All,

I will be having my surgery Dec. 1, 2010 in Carrollton, Texas. I am soooo excited. Not looking forward to the 2 wk preop diet over Thanksgiving, but it will be so worth it. :)

Hi December Sleevers! I am hoping to schedule my surgery the first week of December! Very very exciting! Lol I have the option of doing surgery Thanksgiving week but I would like to enjoy my Thanksgiving without any post op issues. (also I can eat a bit cause my Dr. Doesn't require a 2 week diet before surgery) So the first week of December is the time. I am scheduling the actual date when I meet with my surgeon next week. I'm so happy and excited. I am wishing everyone good luck!

Hi! I'm having my surgery on Dec. 9th. They are also removing my old lap band and fixing a hiatal hernia. Hopefully recovery won't be too horrible, but I am planning ahead just in case--making sure all of my Christmas stuff is done before surgery. My pre-op diet starts the day after Thanksgiving. I know it is alot to go through, but I am confident that it will be worth it!

I have been lurking here since my doctor suggested the sleeve and just registered once insurance was submitted. Insurance received all the paperwork yesterday afternoon and the office called today at 2 to let me know I was approved. Surgery is scheduled for December 1st. I start my liquid diet November 24-the day before Thanksgiving. It is really gonna happen.

The countdown is 14 days until I start the pre-op diet and 21 days until surgery.....

How do I put the ticker and countdown on my posts?

Im scheduled for December 20, 2010. What a wonderful Christmas gift. I am so excited I can't stand it. I cant believe that I actually have a date for my new life to begin. I haven't been this excited since giving birth to my children. If I knew how to do a cartwheel I would. Maybe when I lose some of my weight I will learn how to do one.

Hi folks,

I am getting sleeved on Dec. 14th with Dr. Cirangle in San Francisco. ginnywinks, I'll be just a couple of days before you!!! Guys, this is just around the corner! I'll be on a high Protein low carb diet starting next week, and I'll be on liquids post surgery, so DougNichols, you are not alone!!! I think it will be fine, however. I have spent too many Christmases feeling overstuffed; it'll be a nice change of pace!!

OMG i just scheduled my surgery for December 8th, 2010 with Dr. Almanza, for $4400 at the Jerusalem Hospital. I am completely thrilled and terrified at the exact same time but, I think this will be the beginning a a wonderful change for the better. My mother has already agreed to go with me and so I plan to start my all liquid diet the day after Thanksgiving. I have started compiling the list of the things I need to bring with me and the things I need to buy. My husband has already taken off the week from work that I will be returning from the hospital so he and I will have a good bit of time to acclimate before things go back to normal. I am going nuts. I think I will take before pictures and measurements in the buff Thanksgiving Day and again on December 7th. Good Luck everyone!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
