Post-op 10 days - has not been easy!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Sept. 20th. I had to do a pre-op 3-day liquid diet and lost 5 pounds. My scale and the Dr.'s were not weighing the same so it is hard to tell if I gained some of that back while on IV. But to date I have only down pounds (including 5 prior to surgery). That may sound ok, but I have been struggling with the post-op diet and therefore eating very little. When I got home I had diarrhea steadily for 4 days and eliminated most liquids to try to determine if sugar or carbs was causing it (I only had minimal amounts of these anyway but even sugar-free products can still have some sugar in them).

For 1 1/2 days I had nothing but Water and 1/2 c. chicken broth. Got diarrhea under control and lost some weight. Am now on very soft food/liquid diet. Only able to consume 50 g. Protein and 400 -500 calories a day. Haven't lost an ounce in 3 days. I can't understand why the scales aren't moving. I know about the stall but you surely you can't stall before you really get started losing!!!

I do not exercise but am fairly active....actually overdid it one day and my legs felt like they were made of cement the next day. I was very weak.

I'm not whining - just a tad worried this isn't going to work for me. So little caloric intake and so much diarrhea and not much weight loss to show for it.

Sounds like your body is hanging on to all it's resources since you aren't getting enough in. That's why the scale isnt' moving and you are feeling so tired. JMO

It's still so very early for you. Please take it easy and don't worry too much. The rules are the same .. focus on water/fluid intake, your Vitamins and Protein intake, too. Your body has gone through it's own 'trauma' and is healing itself. Everyone is different in their physical reactions so don't be too hard on yourself. Only consume what you feel you are able and the rest will take care of itself. If you are feeling really lousy, see your doctor.

The scale .. it's the bane of our existence. You will see movement - we all do. Good luck.

I had bathroom issues during the liquids phase too, it was liquids in, liquids out. The next stage was the mushies and well the bathroom consistency followed that stage also. I am hoping you are able to stay hydrated even with the loose stools.

Signs of dehydration:

apixbul1.gif

Mild Dehydration: (increase Fluid intake -- and for babies, call a medical professional): Thirst, dry lips, dry mouth, flushed skin, fatigue, irritability, headache, urine begins to darken in color, urine output decreases

Moderate Dehydration: (call a medical professional): All of the signs of mild dehydration, plus: skin doesn't bounce back quickly when pressed, very dry mouth, sunken eyes, (in infant - sunken fontanel, the soft spot on the head), output of urine will be limited and color of urine will be dark yellow, cramps, stiff and/or painful joints, severe irritability, fatigue, severe headache

Severe Dehydration: (call emergency number): All of the signs of mild and moderate dehydration, plus: blue lips, blotchy skin, confusion, lethargy, cold hands and feet, rapid breathing, rapid and weak pulse, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, high fever, inability to pee or cry tears, disinterest in drinking fluid

The easiest way to tell is if your urine is not clear or a light color of yellow.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
