Banded 6/5& difficulty w/water

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded on Monday and had no problem drinking, seemed to go right down. Now since yesterday i can only take small sips and it feels like the Water is competting for space with the gas. After each drink I have a full feeling in my chest which radiates to my left shoulder. I have been taking gas-x which does not seem to work and I have been walking alot. After I burp the discomfort goes away, but starts back up with another sip. Did anyone else have this, and so many days after surgery? Any words of wisdom?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Reeneea!

Are you drinking cold Water? Try sipping on some warm tea or something warmer. I hope that you can get some liquids down... If you can't get any down I would call Spivak tomorrow so you don't get dehydrated.

Good LUCK!

Reeneea, I agree with Heathergurl. Take the warm sips and call your Dr. if you can't get a good amount of Fluid in...

I was really swollen after banding, if fact after surgery for a few days, all of my liquids would go "gurgle, gurgle" when they came down.

The gas (shoulder pain and all) is the worse part, I had it for around a week. Each day, it should get better. Also, try a heating pad.

Congrat!! Let us know, how you're doing.

Shawn

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
