Biggest Loser last night

Recommended Posts

Did any one see the biggest loser last night??? It was sad. I was shocked with the gal who had gastric bypass at 14 and gained it all back and more...kinda scarry :001_smile: I was pulling for her and she was the first to go home :biggrin0:

We were flipping channels & I saw part of it. Honestly, that show just makes me mad.

Did you hear him say to her "This is bigger than a one day surgery?" Yes, it's hard to believe someone would do a bypass on a 14-year old girl. BUT, we don't know the story behind that. He kept telling her it was hard work and they would show her the way. HELLO!!!! It seems like a majority of the contestants gain back the weight after the show. At least with surgery and effort, we have a chance of keeping it off.

I think that's the last time I turn that show on. It's a shame, because that show had a chance to show all the options, show the struggles and help many people make a difference. They just got caught up in the "Reality TV" game and made it all about emotions & chaos.

when the 'winners' admit to going on a dehydration diet the last week to drop as many pounds as possible to WIN, then they have not learned a thing! it IS a game, and the first season or two i honestly believe people tried hard to work on lifelong habits, but now it's a joke.

I just watch later in the season when they show the difference of each contestant and how far they've come. It's sad that they release them from this 'controlled environment' expecting to continue the way they lived on the ranch. Not gonna happen!

And then the girl who was sent home...her mom having chocolate out...so SAD!! Obviously her mom isn't supportive.

This may be off topic but in reference to BL having squandered the opportunity to teach America something, does anyone remember Mtv's Real World? The very first season it was about providing struggling young artists in New York a good place to live and contacts in their fields and seeing if they could make it. After that, it just became about who was screwing who and fights over who ate whose cream cheese. I am proud to say I have never watched a single episode of Survivor, Idol, and all that idiot programming.

I watched the BL and I think the girl that got sent home this week was the girl that had the surgery when she was 14. I thought that giving a 14 year old such a drastic surgery was a bit harsh, but that's the same mom that had the chocolate out after the daughter had asked her to get it out of the house.

I too was turned off by the Dr's comment of "this is about more than just a one day surgery." I guess there ARE people who treat surgery as a one day thing, but I for one am putting all the effort I would be putting without surgery, every day... and it's getting me somewhere instead of nowhere luckily  It's a tool. It's still for the rest of our lives, not a one day thing. But I guess I shouldn't take it personally, a lot of people do gain weight back after surgery because of this mentality. I just really hope I will not be one of them.

The doctor did say that when you lose weight that fast that you lose muscle tissue, so that when you gain it back, you gain back all fat...being 14 and with unsupportive parents she probably wasn't taught much about exercise or nutrition. I never understood how a person can gain weight back after a bypass.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
