6 weeks post/Need Help

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since I posted. I am now 6 weeks post op and have lost a total of 41 pounds. I have been given the ok by my surgeon to start eating regular foods 4 weeks post op. As of recently, my weight loss has slowed. Since that time, some of my food choices have not been the best, or I have no desire to eat (or the things I want to eat such as bread, I cannot have). One of the bad food choices consisted of me eating 8 piece nuggets at chick-fil-a a couple of times, I have also had the insides of a taco or taco salad w/o the shell from taco bell(just meat, lettuce and cheese), and pepper steak w/o rice. I know all of these choices are not the best, and to be honest besides the nuggets I have only been able to consume a few bites. The reason for these bad choices, is because I am sick of tuna, chicken salad, chicken tenders (peeled fried skin off) and deli meat (haven't really had much, but can't stomach eating it w/o bread), yogurt (anything sweet) and the other foods a lot of us eat after having this surgery. It also does not help matters, that I am away at college and I am always on the go. With that said, I need help. Does anyone have any food suggestions that are quick and easy to make and taste good? Are there any breads that are low carb and tolerable to eat at 6 weeks post op? I really don't want to mess up my weight loss by regaining weight and at one point I was starting to feel as if this surgery was a waste of time, but I know now that is so far from the truth. Sorry to be so long winded and any suggestions anyone has would be most helpful.

Thanks

Lady E.

I don't kno if you have a Sam's Wholesale anywhere near but they have the grilled chicken breasts you microwave and blackened salmon, talapia and swiss chicken burgers that can be microwaved, add in a small side of veggie and your good. Don;t beat yourself up over the nuggets, we've been caught somewehre and had to make a food choice, you did the best you could. The taco doesen't strike me as being bad. The weight loss has slowed way down for me too, have lost only 9 lbs in last 2 months. You are gonna be fine, you can do this!!

WOW!!!! Great job on the weight loss. There seem to be lots of recipes in the recipe section of the forums. Have you checked them out. I just wanted to say for perspective, I would give anything to be able to eat a small amount of chicken nuggets, taco salad etc. as part of my reg diet even if the weight loss is slower. Thats one reason I wanted the sleeve. I want to eat normal food. Not all fried etc, but if I want a burger, I want to eat it and be satisfied with a small burger. Good luck on your continued journey. 41 pounds is amazing!

Thank you soooo much for replying to my post.

@cwalker- Thank you for the encouraging words and good luck with your weight loss, you don't have much left to lose I see :-) I am also going to look into getting the swiss chicken burgers they sound yummy. I also recently broke my stall and I know you will break yours too. I forced myself to drink a Protein shake for a couple of days and the next thing I know, I lost 10 pounds.

@ Eureka- Thank you as well for the congrats on the weight loss and I look forward to seeing you on the losers side :-) and yesss that was one of the reasons I wanted to get the sleeve too. I still wanted to be able to eat normal food and not feel to deprived.

If you really want to eat bread, there is some new really thin bread

in the grocery stores these days. They are shaped like hamburger Buns but they are very thin. One slice or half of this bun like shape, is 50 calories. I doubt if you'd be able to eat the whole thing.

Have you tried the ricotta bake that's in the recipe section? It's good and full of Protein. Bread has no protein in it but you could try the deli meat with it if you're cleared for solids.

Also try meatballs, they have those adeill's meatballs at costco.

Someone just posted a pizza made with cauliflower for the crust. I'm going to try that tomorrow.

The ricotta bake for me has been a life saver. I have made it all sorts of different flavors, make it sort of like a shepherd's pie or an italian pie, or a taco pie. Brown ground beef and season with whtever you like to make it taste like real food, cover with the ricotta bake topping....all in a lasagna pan, bake and it is sooo good...the italian one for me was like eating lasagna.

I loved sliced deli meat wrapped around a laughing cow wedge....roast beef around blue cheese, chicken or turkey around the garlic spiced one....

Hi Oregondaisy,

Thanks for you response. I will have to purchase some of this thin bread. Do you know the brand? I haven't tried the ricotta bake yet, but I am going to be trying that out soon since I have read so many great things about this dish :-)

They are called Sandwich Thins and are either made by Oroweat or Arnold - I guess depending on where you live. They really are very good, and I'll be eating these once again when I can start eating breads.

The brand I get is Sara Lee. Most stores have them in one brand or another.

I actually had luck with deli meats on crackers ... also since you are probably not into cooking, try getting the individually frozen items at costco. hey have individually frozen chicken breast in the bag (look carefully bec they come as one big bag or as individually wrapped in the bag - they stay fresher that way), they also have individually wrapped salmon and a white fish - I think it may have been Halibut.

You can whip each one out onto a broiler pain and eat in a few minutes. they are proportioned as well to be good for 2 meals usually.

meat balls are a great idea - going to try that

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
