8 hours from my sleeve!

and of course, I'm finding it difficult to sleep. I'm a mix of nervous and excited that I know is totally normal, but yikes! What a bundle of emotions, it's really not conducive to a restful night, ugh.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone on this forum. I've made some really lovely connections with some of you and all of your stories/questions/comments have really inspired and reassured me throughout this whole process.

Anyway, I'm a computer geek and will have my laptop with me, so I'll hopefully update soon from the other side! this is worse than christmas eve haha.

hey everyone!

Yep, all is well and I'm feeling good so far. No pain, just discomfort really. Most of my gas pain is happening in my left shoulder and neck, but my abdomen feels totally fine. I've been walking around to try to help as much of that as possible.

When I was waking up from anesthesia I kept asking "when are you going to do the surgery" and had to be convinced it had already happened, hahaha. I was the 4th patient in surgery but the first up and walking around, they say. such the overachiever :cursing:

So yeah, good so far.

BTW-- Dr. Ortiz and everyone here are AMAZING, for anyone still looking for a doctor. My experience has been fantastic so far.

I'd kill for an ice chip though!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
