I had my sleeve five days ago. I feel really good, but it is an adjustment when you're around food, especially if you have to cook for family. I feel hungry alot, but I'm not sure if it's heard hunger or gas! One thing for sure, this will teach you discipline. Unlike before, if you eat something you're not supposed to, or if you eat too much, it is painful. And take it from me, do not eat and then go to bed. Yogurt before bed the other night kept me up for 2 hours with reflux. On the plus side, I have lost 10 pounds in 5 days and the recovery has been so easy. Good luck to you and if you have any questions, let me know. I am so glad I did it.

I think almost everyone has those same questions and doubts right before surgery. You just need to think of the reasons you wanted the surgery to begin with. I know for me just the thought of the quality of my life after surgery, kept me going. I'm just over two weeks post op, and getting use to everything, it hasn't been to bad, and I'm more excited about losing the weight then I am about regretting not being able to eat certain things. Good luck to you, and please let us know how you are doing as soon as you can. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations and I hope your surgery goes well.

I spoke with my mother tonight who is a nurse and was expressing similar fears and she pointed out to me that while there is risk with any surgery if I remain obese I will suffer more ill health in the long run and probably require more surgery, medication etc...

I worry about not being able to enjoy food as well as I love my food, but I will learn to love other things.

good luck with your surgery and I'm looking forward to reading your post-op posts soon.

Everything you are feeling is 100% normal. This is a pretty major change we are undertaking, of course you are going to have moments where you second and third guess your decision. But, at the same time you keep thinking about how this surgery can literally change and extend your life and the excitement of that outweighs the nerves and second guessing.

You will do fine, and we are all here for you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
