No Cutting Sleeve? Have you heard of this

Recommended Posts

Right now I have the lapband and have had great success with it. However I talk with my doctor about the sleeve often because sometimes banded patients switch to the sleeve if they have any problems.

My doctor then mentioned a sleeve type surgery that can be done endoscopically. This procedure is done by stitching your stomach smaller from the inside and not the outside.

This is some version of the sleeve and is a new way apparently to do this.

I have tried looking on the internet for more info but havent come up with anything.

Has anyone heard of this?

Yep - it's called orifice surgery. Google the following:

gastrectomy through orifice

and a couple of articles will pop up. Be aware that the first one done in the U.S. was just done in August so I would hazard a guess that very few doctors are doing this. In fact the one who did the first one actually specializes in orifice surgery - fascinating what he has managed to pull out of natural body openings.....lol

has anyone seen a photo of what the stomach looks like after it is stiched? I have found photos of what the stomach looks like from the inside but I want to see what it looks like showing the stomach from the outside.

Look up the POSE procedure. It is done through your stomach from the inside. I think there is a place in Louisana that does it. It is like the vertical sleeve plication from the inside.

Here is the information on the POSE procedure

POSE (Primary Obesity Surgery, Endoluminal) Procedure in Louisiana

Bariatric surgeons at The Surgical Specialists of Louisiana have become one of the first teams in the U.S. to perform a new incisionless weight loss procedure called the POSE (Primary Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal) to decrease the capacity of a patient's stomach. The Surgical Specialists of Louisiana is one of the first three sites in the United States to make it available.

The POSE procedure is performed under anesthesia using a small flexible endoscope ? a video camera so that the surgeon can view the operative site on a nearby video monitor ? and a four-channel tube created specifically for incisionless procedures. The POSE is performed entirely through the mouth without making any external incisions into the body. The surgeon inserts the flexible tube and the endoscope through the patient?s mouth and then uses surgical tools to grasp the stomach tissue and deploy suture anchors to create multiple tissue folds in the stomach wall to reduce its volume capacity.

We are one of a few select sites in the country participating in a clinical Data Registry that will follow patients who undergo the incisionless POSE procedure. If you are interested in joining the registry to see if you may qualify for this procedure, please contact us today:thumbup1:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
