About a week post-op I started getting a pain in front of my left calf.

At first I was worried it was a blood clot, but my doctor said you don't get blood clots in front of your leg. He said it was likley shin splints due to the weight loss in my legs. Has anyone else had this and what did you do for it?

Oh lord... I'm sorry, but I think your doctor told you that just to give you an answer, so as not to look like he didn't know... but he doesn't know what he's talking about. Losing weight will not "give" you shin splints (I'm a physical therapist) in any way, shape or form. They're caused by overuse of one (or both) of a couple of muscles that run up the front of the leg that help control your foot when you walk or run, to keep it from slapping down on the ground when you step. Unless you're suddenly doing a ton of walking or running, that's not it. Doesn't sound like a blood clot either, as they do usually form in the back of the calf, but monitor it to be sure. If it gets tighter or more painful, or hard, red and swollen, get it checked out ASAP.

Thanks for the info.

There is no swelling at all in fact my legs are very thin....and whatever it might be, I think it's getting better. The pain has been steadily decreasing and today it is almost gone. But I will keep an eye out for swelling and such. Thanks!!! :001_tongue:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
