Hey there...

I think I have been on this site atleast once a day, I am putting my deposit down on my new life next week.. I have decided to have my surgery at OCC with Dr. Ortiz the week of Thanksgiving. I am soo excited yet sooo nervous. I have ALWAYS struggled with my weight... I would loose 10... 20.. 50 pounds to ALWAYS gain it back.. IT SUCKS.... Then I get the joy of adding Menapause to the mix at 41 ( whew no one tells you how fun that is going to be) I had originally thought about doing the Lap Band , but A good friend of mine had hers fail( she eventually did gastric bypass) Sooo gastric sleeve here I come. My best friend is going to meet me there, she is in California and I am in Georgia and my husband will be in Afghanistan( he is behind me 100%) . This site has been soo helpful, I have found answers to things I did not even know to ask, so thank you everyone for being so honest. Now if the next few months would fly by I would be a happy camper. I look forward to getting to know ya'll .

Welcome to the boards. I was like you in the fact, when I went to my first seminar I was thinking about getting the lapband, but then the surgeon started talking about the sleeve and I knew right away that was for me.

Good luck and best wishes on your journey.

Yes welcome. I am in same boat I was researching the lap band and had never even heard of VSG but while on the sister site, Lapband Talk , people were talking about the sleeve and the more i researched the more I was sold. I am 24 days out of surgery and feeling pretty darn good.

I, like the others, had attended the seminar with full intentions of getting the Lapband. But I'm so thankful the surgeon talked to me about the sleeve. I was sold the minute I heard about it! :) I'm sooo super excited to get the procedure done & be on the loser's bench! Thanks everyone 4 your wonderful & informative posts!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
