OMG! OMG! OMG!

I just found out that insurance (Aetna) has approved my surgery!

YEEEAAAAA!!!

My VSG surgery is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 13th! I'm so excited!

I start my 2 WEEK liquid diet TODAY. That part I'm not so excited about. But that's okay. I know it's a minor price to pay for the great things to come. I've been researching and wanting to get WLS for 2 years! I originally was going to get the Lapband but had to put it off because I needed 2 yrs documented weight history. During that time I found out about the sleeve instead and Aetna's decision to cover it a few months back. I guess everything does happen for a reason. :001_cool:

Okay, I'm off to pick up some supplies.

Thanks for listening...well, reading.

I hope you all have a fantastic day!

As someone who had the band for 5 years, feel blessed you didn't get one! Congrats on your approval!

Congrats. We can feel the excitement in you. Good luck on the pre-op diet it can be challenging, but doable. Best wishes on your surgery.

Congratulations!!! I use to have Aetna and had tried to go through them for the lap band and it has several hurdles you had to jump to get approved. Can't wait to hear your results....I am currently waiting on my insurance United Health to make a decision. I was told "no problem" just have the doc send us a predetermination, but I will get excited when i get the go ahead from them.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
