On to pureed foods, need recommendations.

Recommended Posts

I started purees this week. I was so nervous to take that first bite! (Well, baby spoon full). How did your bodies react? I blenderized a couple pieces of chicken and it feels a little strange going down. Not like I am going to vomit, but just slightly uncomfortable. Is it too thick? Any ideas?

I also would like to see some suggestions and ideas for pureed foods since my surgeon said that when I go home from the hospital I will be on pureed foods. Need some ideas everyone! Thanks :-)

I fell in love with mashed cauliflower. Boiled cauliflower until soft, drain Water off, add a small amount of skim milk, smart balance butter, salt, pepper, & onion powder. Blend until creamy.

It may sound gross, but it is yummy. Its a good substitute for mashed potatoes without the carbs.

I personally am struggling with purees. Today I went back to clears for the morning and just now tried a yogurt. I think yogurt is the easiest thing to start with. I just have some nausea and uncomfortableness, so I 'm taking it really slow. I use toddler spoons also. Seems to help with smaller bites and eating slowly. I tried mashed potatoes and couldn't do it. I tried a spoon of Peanut Butter (which may not be a puree and may be my fault) and that wasn't good. Anyone else struggle with purees? Maybe just not ready and back to a few days of liquids?

I have recently started doing the same thing except that I am lazy and use the Steamables cauliflower w/ garlic. I add a small amount of fat free sour cream instead of butter.

For me, puree was weeks 2-3 post-op. I went to a local Soup shop and picked up all sorts Soups, brought them home, and threw them in the blender. Whatever was left went through the strainer. Tasted great and didn't have to worry about "chunks", etc. I also had cream of wheat for Breakfast, and still did some of the Clear Liquids (broths, etc.) when I wasn't feeling up to eating the Soups. Still loved the SF popsicles as well.

Good luck!

Blenderized Wendy's chili was a staple for my husband and me. We also liked refried Beans with a little melted cheese. Yogurt and cottage cheese were also relatively easy to eat and had at least a little bit of Protein. We didn't really do much meat except in the blenderized Soups.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
