Does anyone know if Beans are ok to have. I had refried beans tonight, maybe a 1/4 cup and my husband freaked out saying it was carbs... HELP ME... I know they are carbs, but they are protien too.... so how do I know if its ok. And what about bean juice, like when you cook beans, red beans or lima beans and the broth, or juice from them, it is ok to drink this? I had my surgery last Wednesday the 31st, and I have lost 20#'s. Not drinking the protien drinks, I am drinking skim milk with the no sugar added Carnation Instant Breakfast. 9 grams of protien in 1 cup of milk and 5 grams in the instant breakfast stuff. I drink about 4 cups a day... is this ok?? Thank y'all for all your help!

Beans are a wonderful source of protein....another good "source" is your dietitian, not your husband!!!!! We do not have to diet per sec, we should be eating sensibly and healthy and enjoying life!!! Good luck....

At this stage you don't need to be worrying about carbs or calories.....just eating foods (liquids ) that will help you heal. Refried Beans are a staple of most wls'ers and bean juice is a great choice. I'm 8 wks out... one of my favorite meals is Beans mixed with turkey chilli and a stick of LF cheese.

There is excellent eating guidance from veteran wls folks on

bariatriceating.com.

Don't suck the juice....eat the beans!!! They are recommended by my surgeon. They are one of my favorite sources of Protein. Did your dietitian give you a list of approved foods? If not, I would be happy to scan a copy and send you mine. I refer to my list often.

Refried Beans were my only real food for weeks after my surgery. Still a comfort food to me. I go to Taco Bell, order a taco, pour the contents into my refried Beans and what a meal :hungry: .

(don't forget the ff sour cream)

One of the very first things that I ate when I moved into the mushy stage is pintos and cheese from Taco Bell (thinned way down with water). They were awesome! Beans are an excellent source of Fiber too! Also, Campbell's Soups makes a Bean and Bacon Soup that you add a can of Water to, heat it and Yum!(I of course, puree mine since I'm in the mushy stage). Lots of Protein and Fiber which helps fill you up! Also, I had chili from Wendy's , it was good too after a go around in my Magic Bullet to get it all smoothed out and thinned down.

3loves - Will you scan you list and send to me? I have one, but it isn't very large.. I'm looking for different ideas!

All carbs are not created equal! lol Beans are an excellent source of Protein and fiber - try to find brands that don't use a bunch of fat, or make your own.

Try to stay away from "white" carbs like white flour, sugar, bread, even whole milk (ff still has carbs but the no fat makes up for it), etc.

Good luck.

What Margo and Donna said! I'm a mostly-vegetarian and depend on Beans for Protein. I know they're high in carbs, but they also have lots of fiber and are a great Protein source as well as other nutrients. Overall, I think they are an excellent food for us bandsters!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
