Should I go to hospital?

Recommended Posts

Okay so today I woke up with DYING pain in my stomach. This awful pressure I have never felt before. Being that I have IBS I have felt bad cramps but this was different. Ran to bathroom for over two hours and finally called my doctor. They want me to go to hospital afraid I might have a intestinal infection. But now after talking to the doctor I am feeling a little better. I was hoping he would just tell me to take Imodium or something. I dont know what to do. I hate the thought of being admitted ivs, tests, and blood work. What if it was just a bad bug??:svengo:

If your doctor's office suggested going to the hospital, you should go.

So I went to hospital and they took some blood. Four hours later my blood results came back fine (thank god) and I went home. I think I may have experienced some form of "Dumping syndrome". My surgeon tells me sleevers dont experience this but I have heard otherwise. Has anyone experienced Dumping and what was it like??? I would love some input!

Definitely better to be safe than sorry or sitting at home worrying.

Are you feeling better?

I haven't been able to figure out what triggers it, but sometimes I get "urgent" diarrhea with some cramping.

OMG the pain was so intense I was basically crying. Every time I laid down it felt worse and I would run back to the bathroom....it lasted for few hours but tonight im feeling better im just worried it will happen again. I couldn't even make it to work. Was scary!

I am so sorry. But, glad to know that you are feeling better now.

If it happens again, try some immodium (if allowed by your doctor) and see if that helps.

What a horrible experience for you.

Can you trace the dumping to something in particular you ate? I hear dumping is terrible but it would probably do me good if I got it from eating sugar. Not that I've eaten sugar post-op but previously it was my downfall.

I woke up feeling awful. So I hadn't had any food or drink yet. But the night before I tried a cookie...I know I shouldn't of but it was calling my name. It went down ok. Then I went to bed. So I don't know if it affected me hours later or what!

What exactly is dumping syndrome? I keep seeing it every once in a while. Obviously, something unpleasant, by the sounds of it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
