OK, I can't help but wonder...considering how little you can eat the first few months, what happens with your bowel movement patterns? I tend to get constipated easily - right now I take Alli with fattier meals as I find the slight laxative effect to be just right, but obviously I won't be able to do that after the surgery. Is it going to be a twice-in-a-month kind of deal now? :thumbup1:

Anesthesia and pain meds are notorious for causing Constipation, so you should really ask your dr what he recommends if you already have issues.

I am about a month out and I have tried all kinds of things to go to the bathroom that have fiber.. So, yesterday I had my 4 week follow up and the dr told me I could continue to take what I took prior to surgery without a problem. It is called prunelax. I usually take them in the evening and the next day go without a problem. I had one yesterday after he gave me the "green" light and sure enough -- this morning I went!!

I didn't have any problems with Constipation, but I bought some Benefiber powder just in case. I did have a bit of a liquidy stool during the liquid diet post-op, but I think that is to be expected. Now that I am on mushies everything is back to normal, just a smaller volume.

well here is the deal....someone one here wrote many months ago when i was curious about the same thing "liquid in, liquid out". You arent REALLY constipated, per se. but bowel movements are certainly less frequent. I chaulk it up more to no food intake as opossed to eating tons of cheese or something. Let me say this though, when you DO have your surgery (which btw, it changed my life 9 months ago...so congratualtions and good luck) dont take milk of magnesia like they told ME to do....sure i started going to the bathroom...a lot! but it also dehydrated me and caused more probles than it solved. staying hydrated is critical! so good luck and dont worry about Number 2....just think of it as one less thing you have to worry about taking up time in your otherwise busy day. haha

I didn't have a bowel movement for almost a week after - that was when I was on liquids, but now that I am on the mushy/soft foods everything has gotten back on track. So far haven't had to take anything to help with that.

Honestly, Constipation sounds great right about now!lol I have had the opposit problem since the sugrgery. I knew for the liquid faze that would be normal, but so far even on the mushy faze, running to the bathroom is still an issue! I've honestly had to start taking immodium and pepto for it. I'm hoping once I'm on solid foods it will get better though.

Merry

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
