re: new to this site

I had my sleeve gastrectomy May 19, 2010, so am almost 7 weeks out. I'm disappointed that I have not lost any weight since the week after I got home. I lost 30 lbs. immediately after surgery, then another 4 or 5 lbs. the next week, regained that again, but no more since then. I journal everything I eat, and count Protein grams. I'm currently at 50-70 per day. I am more active than I have been for many years, and get in about 15 mintues of walking at the end of the day. I am thrilled about getting off most of my meds for Water retention, blood pressure, & all diabetes meds including insulin. I feel so much better being off those pills! But, I'm at a plateau and wondering if it will pass or if I need to make more changes.

Hi Judy ~ try not to be discouraged!! I think honestly the huge amount you lost right away has a lot to do with it. I am May 20th so we are right on track with each other and I've lost 41 lbs, just in a different way. 18 first week, then 10 over the next 2 weeks, then 5, then I stalled for a bit, then 4, then 3. Every time you lose 20-30 lbs your body takes a while to adjust before moving on.

If you really think you may need changes, examine your calories (should be 600-800 a day the first year) that's net calories meaning if you exercise and burn 200, then you should eat 800-1000 so that you net 600-800. You can always try upping your exercise also. I have been doing 30-60 mins 4-5 days a week.

Just hang in there - it will work! ;)

Also congrats on getting off all the meds!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
