Choosing new procedure; not worth complications

Recommended Posts

Hi VSG family,:crying:

I have decided to go with the new procedure (TGVP)due to fear of complications. I'm a single parent with a 3 year old and I'm to afraid of having leaks. I read post from Tiffany as well as Donna concerning complications. I'm not willing to take that risk. I'm planning to have surgery with Dr. Jose Rodriguz.

I had the TG plication done by Dr. Rodriguez on July 1. The surgery was easy. The flights to and from were the hardest part for me--delays, headache. Also, I had some acid reflux/nausea 2 days after surgery; but, I'm ok now.

I understand your concern about complications. I had them too. I researched heavily, made a decision, and went for it.

Thanks, please keep me informed on your progress. I have yet to find others that had the same procedure.

Edro, is Dr. Rodriguez doing the plication now? I thought it was only Dr. Corvala in Mexico doing this new procedure.

Best wishes Joy. Sadly, complications can happen with any surgery. The risks of complications from other surgical related issues is actually higher than the 1% risk for leaks if you have an experienced, and trusted surgeon.

My complications were directly related to my band destroying my stomach tissue, and as a revision, my risks quadrupled. The main complications were related to anesthesia complications, and had nothing to do with the sleeve. I knew it going in. I have a 12 yr old son, and a husband, but I don't think I put myself before them by choosing to revise. I understand your concerns, and I know you will be successful. The current stats for the plication are promising, and hopefully we won't see revisions in the future.

Best wishes, and know that you have do what is best for you and your family. I did, and have zero regrets. I won't deny it was stressful, and exhausting, but I don't regret my decision, and do not feel "guilty" for proceeding with my revision.

Its hard to find alot of info on this procedure, but it is something that I might be doing.

Im still debating...

Honestly had been given the option I would not have had the sleeve done but the other procedure instead. I do feel my case was a one in a million being done against my will but that was here in the US.

I wish you the best regardless of which procedure you choose.

Thank you for answering me,

It sounds like you had a hard time with the sleeve.

I hope you will get better soon.

Such a cool option. I would definitely go with a reversible surgery with less risks too. Kind of a no brainer, right? I am hoping my brother can have this surgery when he is ready if he doesn't lose the weight on his own.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
