newbie here!!!!

I'm new here as of .....about 5 minutes ago! Scheduled for the lap-band on June 15th. Right now I'm just trying to get through the Optifast 2 week program without running to Tims for tim bits.....lol

I'm excited and very nervous at the same time. I have 80 pounds to lose but would be happy with 70....hell, I'll be happy when I hit 30 and delighted for every pound after...whoo hoo!!!!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. My only fear (other than fear itself) is getting sick or nauseated.

The nausea thing was my big fear too; as a few yrs ago after some surgery I had, I woke up out of it vomiting. Not fun. I explained this to them and they said that they use a really strong anti-nauseau drug and they would keep an eye on top of that. So, it was a breeeeze!! No nausea either immediately afterwards or later on (although I did take liquid gravol for a couple of days "just in case").

Same here, no vomitting or nausea so far!

Welcome and good luck with everything! I imagine since you're doing Optifast, you're going with Dr. Cobourn?

Optifast was soooo hard for me. But worth it. Just stick it out, the results are awesome!

*edit* - saw another post that you're with Dr. Mumford! Close enough :girl_hug:

:welcomeB: Hello and welcome. I had Dr. Cobourn and I had to do 3 weeks opti-fast, because I had so much weight to lose. It was very difficult, but well worth it. Try to find a spot you can go and hibernate in the house to get away from the temptation(that helped for me). Focus on the last day, that helps. When you get to the last day you will be sooooooo proud of yourself, it's a great way to start with your band, not to mention the enourmous benefit you'll make for your surgery!! Also you can always come online and lean on us, I certainly did that. That is what everyone is here for, each other. I also did not get sick or nauseated, but let them know your concern the morning of surgery and they'll take care of it. Keep gravaul(?) with you all the time to be on the safe side.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
