2nd day post op..not as bad as i thought it would be!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, the surgery is over and done with, gotta be honest not as bad as I thought it was going to be. They prepped me for surgery and gave me some sleepy juice and the next thing i knew i was waking up back in my room...had some gas, but that wasn't too bad either. I was given pain meds as much as a needed it...i got my IV out today and that felt good, have been up walking a lot today, that really helps....i am still a lil head hungary but i'm sure once i get back onto some liquids and soft foods it won't be as bad!!! Anyway, good luck to anyone who is doing this soon...you can do it, hang in there.....now move on over, it's on to the losers bench for me!!!...yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:thumbup:

congrats 4Me! sounds like you are off to a great start!

I will agree - I was starving for the first couple of days after surgery! Once I was able to have something tho, it helped alot.

hope your recovery continues to go smoothly!

Mommaof4 ~ you are doing very good! congrats on the loss!

texaschick ~ it does get very scary as it gets closer! typical no matter what kind of surgery it is : ) ask for a little valium in your iv, it really does wonders to relax you before surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
