July 2006 Band Crew

ericsmom, I get the same way right before my 'time'. I retain Water, get bummed, weepy even lol. Just try to look on the bright side, when your periods over all that water weight is going to come off and you'll probably drop 5 pounds overnight. You're doing a great job at eating right. You're doing a great job at exercising. And just remember you aren't on a 'diet' like in the old pre-band days. This is now a life long journey and you don't have to 'hit it hard' because you're going to eventually give up, pig out, and gain the weight back plus some more. Now you have your amazing band tool to stop you and help you. Every month you are going to weigh less and less! Plus I've been reading a lot of the threads on this site and a lot of ppl say that you don't really start losing until after one or sometimes 2 fills. But you m'dear have already lost 34.8 lbs!!! You are doing better than most. Keep up the good work, and try to keep your spirits up. Its just your period getting you down.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, Kari. You're right...I just needed to hear it from someone else. Thursday's fill day and it will be a whole new chapter in this journey :(

Hi all,

thought Id update you and get it off my chest. i'm having lots of bowel problems, I'm nearly 4 weeks post op and on normal foods and boy does my bowel no it!!! Does anyone else not go to the loo for 3/4 days? I used to go every day but now...once or twice a week and it hurts sooo much!! sorry for the grossness but i need to know if I'm alone with this??

Other major news!!! i joined a gym on friday and had my first workout today, I felt fine afterwards but am now starting to ache... my only concern about the gym is that I don't want to gain weight 'cos of muscle!! the trainer saidas I've had the band done I don't need to do fat burning exercise just to tone up!! anyone any thoughts on this??? it sounds ok but I need to lose a lot of weight so should I be burning fat???

My official weigh in is friday, that will be a calender month after op...so will update my ticker and you then...

I want to thank you all for being honest in your posts as it helps me to put my occasional panics into perspective, when i see others are having to deal with the same....thanks lol

indianlight - i was just wondering about the bowel thing myself. i haven't been to the bathroom in a few days myself but i don't have any tumm pains and no probs going, i'm just not going. one thing my info says is try prune juice - it may help!

i disagree with your trainor, i think fat burning is just as important as wt training, it will help you losethe wt. don't worry about the muscle gain, it will help you in the long run as muscle helps your metabolism and fat burning.

good luck! :(

If you guys aren't going, take some MOM or some stool softeners! I was irregular for a little while... Then one dose of MOM and bam! lol

but once that one bought went away, I still go 2 or 3 times a day like before- just less of it.

Yes my dh is also getting the band. he has surgery on the 22nd of aug... Last night was his last supper because he has a weigh in right before the surg, due to gaining last week. He gained becasue they switched all his meds to liquids.(bs meds and HBP) So he is now on a DIET (low fat and low card) LOL Oh yes I am eating regular foods now, My doc is real leanient when it comes to that I only had liquids (clear and full) for a week after surgery, went to mushies and then when I felt comfortable I moved to solids.. I am real cautious when trying something new and always spit if I am not sure... I have had one slimimg attack and no pb's.. Thank god.. The sliming was on scrabled eggs, go figure???

Ok on to bingo, two words for today are:

Excited

Pre- op

Good luck!!!

I fixed Hamburger Helper for dinner and it was very good and filling. I am trying to get this new eating thing down. I am not doing so good on the Protein Drink part yet but I got some stuff (unflavored) and that is a start. I am going to try it tomorrow with my cottage cheese. Then I can say I ate my curds and whey. ha ha I am going to try to get some more Proteins in my foods as well. I fixed me some Crystal Light and it sure tastes good. I think I might be getting this all now. I have a Breakfast bar that I like that has 10 grams of Protein and I like it too. It only has 140 calories so I can have it for a snack sometimes. I have string cheese alot too. How much protein does one of those have I wonder? I am going to the store tomorrow so I am going to try some new things if I can think of some. Any suggestions? I am still on mushies but I am trying to merge into real food.< /p>

I get my first fill the day after you do...from what I've read on this board in several topics and posts, it will be just fine and more than likely go wonderfully. I am looking forward to this next step in my journey. Good luck to you :)

Well, I get my fill this afternoon with my mom... I'm nervous because my doc doesn't use a numbing needle first to do it. He just puts in the fill needle. Hopefully he can find my port! :) ahhh! I'll let everyone know how it goes. :) But hopefully this liquid phase will jumpstart my weightloss! I need it!

:update: :update: :update: :update:

Hello everyone!

I go for my first fill on Friday. My Doc had told me at my post OP that I have a larger band so finding my "sweet spot" might take some time. I know I can eat quite a bit now being wide open but I just choose not too. I eat alot of Protein, veggies, and low fat dairy. I tend to stay away from scales because I would be a "scale addict".. I don't even have one in my house. I might get one though.. Dont know.. lol

I have noticed my clothes getting looser. I know I am losing alot of inches. Especially in my face and upper body but my tummy is getting smaller too. My hips are not as wide. I noticed at work, I am not tight in my chair anymore. (I do customer service and sit all day)

I have also started my exercise and am on week 2.. I try to walk every single day. I get up early and walk, shower, and then go to work. So far so good.. I enjoy it and have talked to some really nice people on the sidewalk! I also just bought my first house and moved here in May so I am still meeting new people.

But the best thing of all, was the other day.... My boyfriend said these words to me.. "Honey, I can really tell you are losing.. you look really good and I am proud of you." I swear, I wanted to jump him right then!! I am very lucky to have such a supportive boyfriend. He is all for what I am doing.. He eats all the good for you food right along with me and taste tests the recipes that I find for variety. Allrecipes.com is the site I like best!

Hope everyone is doing well.. from what I read on here, you are!

Thanks for letting me ramble on..

Hugz,

DonnaMarie:biggrin1:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
