Stesti,

60 grams is what is expected of us to take in, but I know I'm having a hard time getting 30 - 40 in right now. I am 1 week out today, from surgery. I think I'm having a hard time because I have no more unflavored Protein mix and need to get to the store quickly. LOL When you use the unflavored protein, you can just sprinkle it on your food and your really don't taste it. But right now, I just feel so full after every meal that i find it hard to get the all 60 in. I am on full liquids right now and i can start to add mushies in 4 days. I also have pneumonia so I have not been feeling so great either.

I'm not there yere, but eggs & meat are a good source of protein. Every ounce of meat or 1 egg is around 7 grams of protein. so if you eat 3 0z per meal, you'll have 21 grams right off the bat. Do you have a nutritionist that is available through your Dr's office? They are usually the best to ask. I love my nutritionist. I never go hungry and if i don't like anything that is on my plan, she always finds somethings I do like to help me get by.

Thanks KMO:

I had no idea that we needed 60 grams. I'll buy Protein Powder tomorrow! The nutritionist that I met with was a joke. Just one more reason why BigGirlPantiz and I switched surgeons. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Baylor mom- I have the same pain. It is onlly when I bend. I called my doc about it and was told the the port is attached to muscle so when you bend you are using the stomach muscle so inturns you feel pain. I was told this was normal and could last up to a month. Hope this helps!!!!

Baylor Mom, Sometimes when people corrospond through writing only its hard to get a real feel for what someone is saying. Your comment was that when you bend down to feed your dog the pain about 'kills' you. If you meant that figuratively in that its very uncomfortable and annoying and bit painful then it could be normal like what JMO said. It does take 6 weeks for surgeries to heal. However if you meant it literally, like you feel like you are going to pass out, get light headed, feel your heart beat funny, etc... then I agree with Mary and you should call your doc right away. Better to be on the safe side.

2 weeks out to the day now. Had a gynecological surgery yesterday, so general anesthesia all over again. Everything went well, I feel fine, but I am swollen again.

BUT the good news is, in 2 weeks I have lost 20 pounds of Water or whatever I don't care, it is just gone. THAT makes up for everything.

Well, I am now four days post-band. I feel good and my incisions feel like bruises and I am just tender, not in pain. I feel really lucky because I have been sleeping on my left side since day one and I have not had any nausea at all.

The only problem I seem to be having in lower back pain. I am kind of assuming that is from the blow-up gas and surgery but was wondering if anyone else had lower back pain?

I'm 7 days post op now and feeling darn good. I'm actually looking forward to going back to work next week so I don't have all day to stew (bad pun) about my hunger.

Doctor removed all of my bandages yesterday and the 5 incisions look great. And if I poke them, they all feel normal, no pain. Energy level is not bad considering I'm on Clear Liquids for another 3 weeks. I think day 4 was my worst day so far with the liquids as I was feeling overwhelmed with the near future (diet-wise) but it went away and now I've settled into resignation. I'm hungry virtually 100% of the time but I'm managing it. I think a long walk is in my plans for today :-)

And all gas discomfort seems to have stopped at day 5/6. Yah!

MissyN, Ive been having the back pain too off and on. I think/wonder if its from not being able to use your stomach muscles and over compensating by using more back muscles? When I had c-sections with my daughters the same thing happened, my back hurt. Plus I have a 3 1/2 month old who im always holding/carrying/feeding and I think this is wearing my back out lol.

Awwwww, good for you Gilbert. You sound so positive. I have to warn you, for me days 8 - 11 were hard ones, then it became easier again. Day 14 for me now and it seems easier again.

Keep it up girl and let us know how it is going.

I talked to doctor today and he wants me to go to the emergency rooom at the hospital in Dallas tonight. He thinks that my band might have slipped. I don't think the pain is that bad though. I live in Fort Worth and I have a phobia about going places that are far from my home. Dallas is way too far for me. I don't know what to do. My hubby is talking to the doctor now and I hope we can work something out. The doctor is going to give me some medicine to get me there but I don't want to go. I know my health is important and I will go if I have to. I will write back and fill you guys in when I find out what is wrong.

Beth

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
