Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

What are you looking forward to?

Recommended Posts

As I'm searching for a surgeon I day dream about I will do once I have my sleeve and have lost a good amount of weight. I am 270 now so I have about 120ish to loose. What are you looking forward to or if you are already there what did the sleeve make possible for you?

Mine are:

Shopping at any store and buying cheap and cute clothes.

Taking a bath in a regular sized bathtub with room

Flirting, even though I've always been fat I haven't had any confidence recently

People saying, "Is that all you are eating?"

Getting any hairstyle I want without worring about making my face fatter

Wearing shorts and dresses again

My husband picking me up

Now that I'm pretty much at goal weight, here are a few things that still amaze me and that I can't believe are real:

*Seeing bones again and that I had forgotten were there (cheekbones, collarbone, hip bones)

*Losing 8" in my waist in 4 months

*Feeling and looking younger than I did 15 yrs ago!

*Walking past the Lane Bryant store on my way to Victoria's Secret (ha!)

*At the age of 49, wearing the same size I wore when I was 17

I want to wear whatever I want

I want a boyfriend....maybe

I want to be un-obsessed with my next diet

I can't wait

There was about 5 hot minutes in my mid-late teens before I got fat when I had the confidence and authority that comes with knowing you look good. I would like to have that back, along with:

people looking me in the eye instead of staring at my gut,

buying cheap clothes and never darkening the doorstep of LaneBryant again!

Never giving it a second thought when I am ushered to a booth or delicate chair or airplane economy seat.

Not asking for a seatbelt extender on airplanes.

wearing a regular non fancy basic racing swimsuit at a public pool and diving in without anybody giving me any particular kind of look.

Not being the sidekick buddy when the girls go out - being visible to men.

wearing bright colors and patterns without looking like a couch or overgrown toddler.

And so much more!!!!!

I thought of another one last night. I want to be a pretty arm accessory for my hubby who is fantastic and has always gotten the bad end of everything. I also want to beable to borrow from my sister-in-law's HUGE wardrobe. She used to be a model and still shops like one.

What a wonderful thread...

I want heads to turn when I walk into a room and not think it must be that I look huge in what I am wearing

I want to go on a cruise without my first thought being "no way, that means a bathing suite".

I want to wear cute dresses without thinking "cankles"

I want to be able to flirt without worring what the guy must be thinking about my weight.

I want to be able to choose the guy I want to be with without settling for one.

I want to be more active in everything I do.

After losing over 65 lbs so far, I have experienced a few noticeable achievements, such as, crossing my legs, eliminating my sleep apnea (no more mask!), having more freedom of movement with my arms, and one that hit me the other day was when I was able to sit "indian style" on the grass..and it was comfortable!

It's amazing how the weight keeps you from moving freely, and you don't realize it until you can do things you didn't realize you weren't doing because of the weight!

This is a good thread!

So far with my current loss, I have been able to:

-Not ask for the seat belt extender on the airplane.

-Able to use a "normal" bathroom stall and not the handicap larger one if needed.

-Starting to find some clothes at normal stores, still at 2x but 3x is now too big.

Future:

-not be the biggest guy who uses the Stairmaster stepmill at the gym.

-able to Run again and long enough to get my "second wind"

-maybe complete a marathon

-Have my waist size be smaller or equal to the length on my Jeans.

-Have someone describe my appearance and not mention the words big or large. Maybe one day tall and thin..

Great post!

1. Having much more confidence when conducting business at work.

2. Being a positive influence on how my children eat.

3. Walking around a pool in my swimsuit instead of staying horizontal on the loungers.

4. SHOPPING!!! and being able to wear the same clothes for seasons to come.

5. Taking dance classes, dancing again!

6. Not feeling my inner thighs rub together when I walk.

7. Wearing more shorts, less Capri pants.

8. Working out again, maybe even running a half marathon!

I am sure I can think of many more!

This is a really inspiring thread... thank you for putting yourselves out there...

* I want to be the sexy woman on stage - (not the cart lady, older lady, mother... some of this is based on voice type hehe but I would like the director to entertain the idea of me as the sexy heroine)

* I want to have my confidence back!!!

* I want to go to a store like the dress barn (or somewhere nicer lol) and be able to look at the cute clothes. I hate having to walk to the other side of the store having witnessed all the sexy fun clothes to look through a sea of frumpiness.

*I want to walk from building to building on campus and not feel like I am going to die before I get to the next location.

*I want to be able to play with my nieces and nephew for longer than 5 minutes.

*I want to book an airplane or concert ticket and not immediately regret the length of time in a small chair.

This is such a fun thread! I have lost almost 50lbs and today we went to the zoo, it was HOT and I did not sweat at all! I have the sweetest husband he constantly says "Wow, it is amazing how much weight you have lost" and I noticed that he kept taking pictures of me, and I realized I was allowing him to! Those are some of the fun things that I didn't even know to look forward to.

I look forward to:

Waking every day without wondering/worrying how I will get my weight off.

Moving more freely

Feeling better physically and mentally

Fitting into seats

Not having to pay as much for clothing and

Just feeling lighter!

I am so happy for all of us!

I like this thread as well and I've been thinking about it for a few days. Here's what I've come up with.

1. First and foremost I would like not having to take high blood pressure meds. IT SUCKS. TWICE A DAY.

2.Getting on the rides at the amusement park without worrying if the ride is to small. I LOVE THE AMUSEMENT PARK.

3.Someone mentioned seeing hip bones. Me too. MAN.... I'VE HAVEN'T SEEN THOSE IN 25 YEARS. LOL.

4. Crossing my legs and sitting indian style on the floor.

5. Well..... since I'm dreaming and dreams do come true. How about RUNNING a marathan. THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY KEWL.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
